Geffen Playhouse and online theater streaming service BroadwayHD today announced a partnership to present select live and captured-live productions from the Los Angeles theater to BroadwayHD subscribers. The Geffen's current production of Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning Long Day's Journey Into Night, starring Jane Kaczmarek and Alfred Molina, will be the first play presented under the partnership. It marks BroadwayHD's first live stream from a U.S. theater outside of New York City.

A long-time Los Angeles Theatre contributor, Jeanie Hackett has acted, directed and overseen two theatre companies (so far) - Antaeus and The Classical Theatre Lab. Before her latest directorial project LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT opens January 31 at The Geffen Playhouse, Jeanie took some time out of rehearsals to chat with BroadwayWorld and myself.

L.A. Theatre Works launches its starry 2015-16 season tonight. Among the big-name actors slated to appear in this year's productions are Kate Burton, Jenna Fischer, Christina Hendricks, James Marsters, Alfred Molina and Jennifer Westfeldt.

Members of the 'Pro99' movement of Actors' Equity Association have issued an open letter to AEA's newly elected president, Kate Shindle, in response to her victory and to her inaugural address as president of the national union for actors and stage managers. The open letter is signed by over 400 Equity members (listed below), including such notable names as Ed Asner, Francis Fisher, Sally Kirkland and Alfred Molina. The 'Pro99' movement formed in late 2014 in opposition to AEA's rollout of a new plan that will effectively force 'intimate theaters' in Los Angeles to pay Equity actors minimum wage, go 'non-union' or even close - despite an overwhelming vote against the plan by 66% of the Los Angeles membership on an advisory referendum. 'Pro99' members around the nation, who take their name from the current AEA '99 Seat Plan' that allows members to volunteer in smaller venues, oppose AEA's new promulgated plan. They are requesting that Equity leadership put a moratorium on the plan until local members' voices can be heard, and that the union work with its members to develop an alternative plan that will more realistically address the needs of the Los Angeles theater community.

Rising Phoenix Repertory, Weathervane Productions, and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater present the world premiere of Thieves, written by Charlotte Miller and directed by Daniel Talbott, at the Monroe Forum Theatre at the El Portal in North Hollywood. Thieves tells the story of a dysfunctional family in East Texas that descends into chaos when their matriarch dies. The show opened on March 20, 2015 with the production running through Saturday, April 4, 2015. BroadwayWorld has photos from the opening night festivities below!

The Pasadena Playhouse presents, in association with South Coat Repertory, Matthew Lopez's multi-award winning play THE WHIPPING MAN as the fourth production of the 2014-2015 season. THE WHIPPING plays through March 1, 2015 at The Pasadena Playhouse. Stage and television star Charlie Robinson (NBC's 'Night Court') plays Simon in this Obie Award-winning drama. Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts (aka 'The Wallis') announces the addition of three performances to the return engagement of Love, Noel: The Letters and Songs of Noel Coward, devised and written by Coward authority Barry Day, and directed by Jeanie Hackett. All performances had been sold out; Love, Noel now continues through Sunday, December 28.

Rising Phoenix Repertory and Weathervane Productions have commissioned new plays from three female playwrights, which will each be produced over the next two seasons. Rising Phoenix Repertory's artistic director, Daniel Talbott, will direct all three plays. The first of the commissions onstage is Thieves by Charlotte Miller, making its world premiere at the Monroe Forum Theatre in North Hollywood, California, March 18, 2015 through April 4, 2015, co-produced by Rising Phoenix Repertory, Weathervane Productions and Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts announces its theater, music, dance, lectures and Theater for Young Audiences programming for the 2014-2015 Season, which begins today, October 7-19 with the Edinburgh-based Puppet State Theatre Company production of The Man Who Planted Trees in the Lovelace Studio Theater; and in the Bram Goldsmith Theater a new lecture series in partnership with Writers Bloc, presenting a conversation with Leon Panetta on October 15 and Marsalis Well Tempered: An Evening with Branford Marsalis featuring the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia on October 16.

The Wallis has announced that Tony nominee Judy Kuhn (She Loves Me, Chess and Les Miserables) and Tony winner and five-time Emmy nominee John Glover (Love! Valour! Compassion!, 'Smallville') will star in Love, Noel: The Letters and Songs of Noel Coward, devised and written by Coward authority Barry Day, and directed by Jeanie Hackett, who over saw The Antaeus Theatre production of Noel Coward's Tonight at 8:30 and the three-year development of the Antaeus production of Coward's Peace in Our Time. The musical direction and piano accompaniment is by David O. Due to popular demand, additional performances have been added and Love, Noel will now be performed February 14 through 23 in the Lovelace Studio Theater.
