Theatre Bay Area, one of the largest regional performing arts service organizations in North America, has announced the finalists of the 2019 TBA Awards. The sixth-annual TBA Awards Celebration will take place on Monday, Nov. 4 at the Herbst Theatre (401 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco).

Well, Bay Area Musicals' production of "Hairspray" just might be the perfect remedy to lift you out of your despair and make you believe in our collective power to triumph over all the nastiness out there. The show pulls off the neat trick of delivering an upbeat, larger than life entertainment while also conveying a powerful message about the need for us all to band together if we're going to extinguish racism, and a host of other isms along the way. Lessons from the civil rights movement are presented without the show ever feeling didactic or preachy.

Designed as a companion piece to ACT's mainstage production of Eurydice, Project Orpheus marries the three distinct artistic styles of renowned local choreographers Wade Madsen, Eva Stone and Olivier Wevers into one seamless narrative. Together, with lighting/technical director Peter Bracillano and music director Dave Abramson, Seattle Dance Project creates a modern, moody interpretation of the tragic Greek myth that uses dance to explore the physicality of love, jealousy, compassion and grief.
