Kate Shindle, Alex Brightman and More to Lead REPORTING LIVE at NYMF

Alexander Greenfield will direct a cast that includes Kate Shindle (Wonderland, Legally Blonde), Alex Brightman (Wicked, Glory Days), Theresa McCarthy (Titanic, Floyd Collins), and Nicholas Rodriguez (Tarzan, One Life to Live, Arena Stage's Oklahoma) in a reading of Michael Finke's new musical REPORTING LIVE on July 25th at 12 and 4 p.m. as well as July 28th at 2 p.m. as part of the 2012 New York Musical Theatre Festival Developmental Reading Series.

Reporting Live tells the astonishing true story of Christine Chubbuck (Kate Shindle) and follows her at the same time on a fictional journey in a land we have yet to discover.

Christine was a real-life television journalist from the early 1970's. She was smart, attractive, young, and passionate about her work. However, in 1974, Christine made history by creating one of the most disturbing broadcasts ever seen on television. After taking her own life, Christine wakes up in a desert with barely any sign of other people. However, she soon encounters an odd and lonely man (Alex Brightman) who says he can help her. The two embark on an epic quest in a strange world for one reason: to find a way out.
An uplifting biographical fantasy, Reporting Live is a genre- breaking musical set out to fight the casualties of depression and prove that even in the darkest of places, one can always be held closer to the light.

Theresa McCarthy and Nicholas Rodriguez will star as Chubbuck's mother Peg and brother Greg, respectively. The cast will also include Christopher deProphetis, Jeffrey Wolf, Doug Paulson, Michelle Wolf, Russell Saylor, Kevin Michael Wade, Erik Gullberg, Danielle Eden, and Matt Wood. Further casting to be announced.

Reporting Live has been developed at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and received an album recording at Dubway Studios boasting 16 singers and live 23 piece orchestra. Finke writes, "I wrote the show as a means of discussing not only depression and suicide, but the means of coping, moving on, and finding a way out of that dark place in which so many people find themselves. I believe this is not only an emotional show for anyone to see, but also a timely one-and it is about a subject matter I care about deeply."
