A hilarious, high energy Broadway musical based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film; YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. The show's raucous score includes The Transylvania Mania, He Vas My Boyfriend and the unforgettable treatment of Irving Berlin's Putting on the Ritz. A Tony award-winner in 2008, don’t miss it!

ALL ROLES OPEN and include:

Frederick Frankenstein: (Lead) Male, ages 25-49, All Ethnicities, a famous scientist dedicated to his work and innocent of the world at large. Intent to distance himself from his notorious grandfather whose scientific legacy is less than legitimate. A warm lyric baritone who sings to E-flat, and a comic actor who combines the manic energy of Danny Kaye with the charm and elegance of Fred Astaire. Sings with effortless charm (Puttin' On the Ritz) and requires vocal power for a full-voice traditional Broadway ballad. Vocal range: Bb one octave below middle C to G above middle C.

Elizabeth: (Lead) Female, ages 25-49, All Ethnicities. Frederick’s spoiled and self-centered fiancée. Great comic role. A lyric soprano with wide range (to high C) who can deliver showy coloratura fireworks with complete ease. Music has a comic-operetta-ish sensibility that reflects the songs of Romberg, Herbert, Friml, and early Kern. Vocal range: F# below middle C to F#, top line of the treble staff.

Igor: (Lead) Male, ages 20-50, All Ethnicities. A hunchback servant at the Frankenstein estate in Transylvania. Great comic role. High light baritone (to F#), should have the nimble charm to sing English music hall style songs and the show-biz savvy of Jimmy Durante. Vocal range: D below middle C to F above middle C.

Frau Blucher: (Lead) Female, ages 30-60, All Ethnicities. The housekeeper at the Frankenstein estate who keeps the secrets of the past. Slyly comic role. Requires skilled, dark, dramatic Lotte Lenya alto with a real sense of the Berlin Cabaret world of the 1920s and '30s. Solid belt up to B-flat and a workable mix that extends up to E-flat. Vocal range: F## (G natural) below middle C to B, third line treble staff.

Inspector Kemp/Hermit: (Lead) Male, ages 35-59, All Ethnicities. One actor plays both roles. Kemp is head of the local police with a highly developed sense of his own power and a keen desire to keep order in the town. The Blind Man is a recluse who enjoys a meal with Frankenstein’s monster. This double role requires a great comic, transformational actor. Big legit bass-baritone voice that can really open up and soar to high F. Should demonstrate very dramatic singing chops in terms of volume and the break-your-heart quality of a singer, like Al Jolson in his prime. Vocal range: Bb one octave below middle C to Db just above middle C.

The Monster: (Lead) Male, ages 18-50, All Ethnicities. The monster created when Dr. Frankenstein performs his famous brain transplant. Bass-baritone with good legit sound up to E-flat. Vocal range: Ab one octave below middle C to F above middle C. Also must be able to emit howling/monster/grunting sounds. Knowledge of tap dancing a plus. Physically imposing.

Inga: (Lead) Female, ages 20-39, All Ethnicities. A young local Transylvanian woman who becomes Dr. Frankenstein’s eager assistant. Oblivious to her own sexuality and appeal. A bright, clear youthful Broadway Mezzo with a high sustained belt to D-flat and a sweet mixed voice that extends up to high E. Vocal range: G# below middle C to A above the treble staff. Yodeling is a plus.

Ensemble: (Chorus / Ensemble) Males & Females, ages 18-64, All Ethnicities. Consists of 4-6 males and 4-6 females, with plenty of featured roles, lot of juicy lines and singing, including a barbershop quartet. Seeking performers with strong dance/movement training. Tap experience a plus. This group will portray gravediggers, villagers, medical students, passengers, mad scientists and various supporting roles, including Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein (male, 40s-50s, Frederick’s infamous grandfather; vocal range: C# below middle C to G# above middle C) and Ziggy (male, 30s, well-intentioned village idiot; vocal range: F below middle C to F above middle C).
