Auditions for THE NERD, a comedy by Larry Shue
West Coast Players will hold auditions for The Nerd by Larry Shue at 7 pm on Sundayand Monday, June 21st and 22nd, 2015.
Director Rand Smith will be casting for three male characters 25-40 years of age, one male character 35-60 years of age, one female character 25-40 years of age, one female character 30-50 years of age, and one male child character 7-11 years of age.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. No performers paid.
Production dates are August 14 – 30, 2015.
Play Synopsis: Architect and all-around nice guy Willum Cubbert has spoken often of Rick Steadman, the man who saved his life in Vietnam – a man he never got to meet but to whom, via a letter, Willum has pledged that as long as he’s alive, “you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you.” Now, at a gathering at Willum’s apartment to celebrate his 34th birthday, Willum’s mystery rescuer, Rick, suddenly turns up on the doorstep to finally meet the man he saved. To Willum’s amazement, Rick turns out to be very odd, inept and obnoxious, the houseguest from hell, but Willum lacks the backbone to speak up, and Rick is overstaying his welcome with a vengeance. When Willum’s party, career, and life all begin to fall apart, he and his friends are pushed to the edge. With lovable characters and twists at every turn, this laugh-out-loud comedy is pure slapstick gold!
