Auditions for THE LION IN WINTER at Vagabond Players November 21 and 23

Saturday, November 21 at 1:00 p.m. and Monday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Performance Dates: April 8 – May 8, 2016. Fridays & Saturdays at 8:00 p.m.,
Sundays at 2:00 p.m. and Thursday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m.
Rehearsals begin in late February
ALL ROLES ARE NON-EQUITY, NON-PAID, and require experienced actors.
The roles of Henry II and Eleanor have been cast.
Synopsis:
The Lion in Winter (by James Goldman) is first and foremost a sophisticated family comedy-drama, only in this case the setting is 1183 and the family is headed by King Henry II and his Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine. Henry wants his kingdom to stay united after his death, but all three of his sons are looking for a shot at grabbing the crown, thus risking a civil war. Henry favors his youngest, John, while Eleanor favors the eldest, Richard. The daggers are drawn and the wit rapier sharp in the gripping, laugh-out-loud funny battle between two of history’s greatest royals.
Character Descriptions:
Richared Lionhart (late 20’s -30): Richard looks like his legend--- handsome, impressive, blunt. He has been a famous soldier since his middle teens—war is his profession and he is good at it.
Geoffrey, Count of Brittany (mid-late 20’s): A man of energy and verve, attractive, charming and the owner of the best brain of a brainy family.
John (16 – early 20’s): Pimply, impetuous, selfish, grasping, a ragamuffin who is not inclined to bathe, yet charming when he needs to be. He is a spoiled teenage boy.
Philip Capet, King of France (early-mid 20’s, younger than Richard): Well-proportioned and handsome, his manner is open, direct, and he smiles easily. He has been King of France for three years and he has learned a great deal about political maneuvering.
Alais Capet (20’s): Philip’s sister and Henry’s mistress. Beautiful, poised, mature for her years, she is in love with Henry despite the fact that he wants to marry her off to John.
Actors will be given ample time to study and then read a brief scene from the play (no monologues are required).
