Brief Synopsis:
George and Doris meet by chance at an inn and despite being married to others, they begin a tumultuous but deep love affair, meeting one weekend a year for the next 25 years. (romantic comedy)

Roles (1 woman, 1 man):

DORIS: To play age 25 to 50 covering a 25 year period from 1951 to 1975. Italian or Irish, very Catholic. We first see her as an uneducated high school drop out, happily married with three kids living in Oakland, CA. During the course of their relationship, Doris begins to read, gets her high school diploma, gets pregnant, becomes a hippie, gets involved in the Women’s Lib movement, goes to college, becomes a highly successful business woman, becomes a grandmother, sells her business for a lot of money, and runs for local public office.

She is attractive, very sensual but with an air of vulnerability, unselfconscious, enchanting, bright with a rather liberal attitude toward sex.

GEORGE: To play age 30 to 55 covering a 25 year period from 1951 to 1975. We first see him as a CPA married with three kids, living in New Jersey, on his annual business trip to do a friend’s books. During the course of their relationship, George moves to Connecticut, has a new daughter, develops an ED problem (which is cured by Doris), moves to Beverly Hills where he becomes very wealthy, loses his son in Vietnam and become very “Establishment,” goes through his “analysis” stage, and gives up “the money thing” to teach accounting at UCLA. His wife also dies.

He is charming, warm, caring, loving, somewhat neurotic, and insecure. He is often guilt-ridden by the affair, yet finds Doris to be irresistible and fascinating.

Both actors must be very comfortable with intimate physicality, partial undress, have great comic timing, be able to ‘age’ over 25 years, and convey a wide emotional range. George: Can play piano a plus.

Both roles are available.
