CALLING FOR SONGBIRDS TO JOIN THE QPAC CHOIR

Do you love to sing? Something magical happens when a group of individuals sing together so why not come along and audition for the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) Choir?

A contemporary choir offering exciting performance opportunities in 2012, the QPAC Choir is auditioning for new members next Monday 19 March from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at QPAC, Cultural Centre, South Bank.

Rehearsing Monday nights, the QPAC Choir provides access to skill development and public performance across an imaginative repertoire of music.

QPAC Choir Chorus Master, Tim Sherlock invites people aged 17 years and over to audition.

“Taking part in the QPAC Choir offers a great community experience with other like-minded music lovers, as well as an opportunity to extend singing and performance ability.

“Membership includes ongoing skill development within weekly rehearsals and participation in public performances at events such as the QPAC’s Out of the Box Festival for Children and the Centre’s annual Spirit of Christmas concert.

“The choir will also stage a special QPAC choir performance in June this year,said Mr Sherlock.

QPAC Choir Master - Tim Sherlock - Biography follows:

Tim Sherlock Biography

Tim Sherlock is an Australian music educator, choral conductor and composer. A graduate of the University of Queensland, Tim has taught and contributed to the development of aural-based music and choral programs in a number of Brisbane schools.

For several years, Tim has been on the faculty of the Sound Thinking Music Summer School program, where he lectures in Musicianship and Secondary Teaching Methodology.

In 2007, 2008 and 2011, Tim conducted the Griffith University State Honours Ensemble Programme Choir, and in 2009, he was the composer-in-residence at the Chinese International School, Hong Kong.

In 2010, Tim conducted the Secondary School Honours Choir as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations for the Queensland Catholic Colleges Music Festival. In the same year, Tim undertook a period of study in Hungary where he observed musicianship and conducting classes at the Kodály School, Liszt Academy (Budapest) and Kodaly Institute (Kecskemét).

In 2012, Tim will conduct the Griffith University State Honours Choral Ensembles in Cairns and Rockhampton as well as co-preparing the official Australian choir at the Gallipoli Dawn and Lone Pine services in Turkey.

Tim has a particular interest in composing and arranging for choral ensembles. Tim regularly composes original music for choral ensembles and his arrangements of both folk and contemporary songs are regularly performed by children’s, youth and adult choirs.
