A romance of the Old West and of the dreaming, hoping, weary gold miner who is not certain where he is heading, but always ready to paint his wagon and go. A prospecting town has sprung up around Ben Rumson’s discovery of gold. Ben’s daughter Jennifer falls in love with a Mexican miner, Julio. The town is suffering from such a lack of women that a recently arriving Mormon is encouraged to auction one of his two wives to the highest bidder, which turns out to be Ben. This disgusts Jennifer, and she moves east for schooling, but asks Julio to wait for her. The town is saved by the arrival of Cherry and her Fandango Girls, but one year later Jennifer returns to find the gold dried up and the men and women leaving – even Julio – to chase the next gold strike. Ben begins to dream, preparing to once again roam after his wandering star. Includes the hits “I Still See Elisa,” “I Talk To the Trees,” “Wand'rin' Star,” “Take The Wheels Off he Wagon,” “They Call The Wind Maria,” “Another Autumn” and “Hand Me Down That Can O' Beans.”
This touching musical tribute to the pioneer spirit needs a large, talented cast! There are pieces that showcase strong dancers and strong singers; the cast size is flexible and speaking-only roles are also available. For more information, visit
