In Baitz’ provocative political and family drama, Brooke Wyeth returns home to Palm Springs after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family's history—a wound they don't want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.

CHARACTERS:
Lyman Wyeth (Late 50s to early 70s)
Patriarch of the family, and Californian royalty. A Hollywood “B” actor with some celebrity and political influence. Seemingly conservative, but with a sense of humor about himself and a deep love and caring for his adult children.

Polly Wyeth (Late 50s to late 60s)
Lyman’s wife. Elegant, forthright, and whip-smart. She is graceful and funny but doesn’t suffer fools gladly. She is deeply devoted to the preservation of family and all it stands for, and even more, the health of her husband. Staunchly conservative, leaving her Jewish roots in the dust.

Brooke Wyeth (Late 30s to 40s)
Lyman and Polly’s adult daughter. A writer who is native New Yorker although born in California. She thrives on solitude, coffee shops, intelligent conversation, and being understood. She loves her family but also her independence. She has had issues with emotional instability in the past. Liberal.

Trip Wyeth (Early 30s to Late 30s)
Brooke’s brother. A TV producer – bright, funny, easy-going, takes life as it comes, loves being around family and oddly, all its traditions. Devoted to his older sister and her health. The peacekeeper, up to a point.

Silda Grauman (late 50s to early 70s)
Polly’s sister. A woman of indeterminate age. A former TV writer who is definitely from the more Bohemian gene in the family. Impulsive, creative, reckless, fragile, funny – she’d rather be living alone but is dependent upon Polly and Lyman for support. Fighting to remain sober. Wears her Jewish upbringing on her sleeve.
