NO MAN'S LAND - The Anthropologists
Casting the roles of TONY and REGGIE for the World Premiere of No Man's Land, a new play by The Anthropologists. NON-EQUITY.
Synopsis:
The Anthropologists’ No Man Land wrestles to the stage the story of American dad Jeremiah Heaton, who literally went to the “ends of the earth” to make his daughter a princess by planting a flag in an unclaimed plot of land nestled between Egypt and Sudan. What begins as a fairy tale quickly exposes the dark underbelly of the American Dream, the power of privilege, and our culture’s embedded racism. Using our signature method of fusing source material and rigorous dramaturgy with original text and expressive movement, The Anthropologists’ new devised work asks: How do you get what you want and whose dreams deserve to be realized?
REGGIE
(Lead) African American male, age range: 25-45. A commanding performer with equal parts intensity, humor and playfulness, with a range that encompasses both Shakespeare and Key & Peele. Raised in academia in rural Massachusetts and new to New York City; he is the handsome leading man who is consistently shut out from that role because of deep-seated cultural norms in the American theatre. Actor should have experience with movement and dance, a command of classical text and the ability to play multiple characters in an ensemble setting. An interest in devised work and a passion for investigative civic-minded theatre is appreciated.
TONY
(Lead) Male of South Asian, Indian, or Middle Eastern descent, age range flexible (25-55). Tony is the ultimate showman. A versatile character actor with boundless energy; he would have been a vaudevillian in a past life. He’s willing to play the clown yet yearns for the dramatic (or even romantic) lead. As an immigrant, he observes America with a sense of bemused wonder yet also disapproval. Actor should have experience with movement and dance, facility with dialects or accents and the ability to play multiple characters in an ensemble setting. An interest in devised work and a passion for investigative civic-minded theatre is appreciated. Special talents like juggling, magic or singing are also welcome.
