KITCHEN WITCHES AUDITIONS

Auditions for the acclaimed comedy, Kitchen Witches, will be held Monday March 28 and Tuesday March 29 at 7:00 PM at Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg, 915 South York Street, Mechanicsburg. Performance dates run from May 13 through May 28. For more information, please call 717-766-0535.

Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two mature cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food! Dolly's long-suffering TV-producer son Stephen tries to keep them on track, but as long as Dolly's dressing room is one inch closer to the set than Isobel's, it's a losing battle, and the show becomes a rating smash as Dolly and Isobel top both Martha Stewart and Jerry Springer

Stephen: Male 20s – 40s TV Producer and Director

Stephen is harried by his job, exasperated by his mother, intimidated by the camera person and shy with the ladies. He fancies himself a superb screenwriter. He’s not.

Dolly: Female 40s – 60s TV chef

Her son may be her TV Producer/Director, but he will always be her little boy first. Dolly is showy, pushy and pouty, a real ‘down home’ diva. Needs to be able to speak with a Ukrainian accent, but doesn’t have to be particularly good at it.

Isobel: Female: 40s – 60s – TV chef

Izzy is the ‘up town’ counterpoint to her rival Dolly. Izzy thinks of herself as the more classical chef, though their rivalry goes beyond cooking skills. Izzy is less showy than Dolly, but just as competitive.

Rob/Roxy: male or female of any age – must be able to lug around a camera tripod - part has only one line but gets a lot of stage time. Character played as someone who is working for community service hours. Character is intimidating to Stephen but seems pleasant to everyone else.

Acapella Singers: male or female – any age

Looking for 3 to 6 acapella singers to sing show jingles and also serve as stage hands. Singers may expect to have limited rehearsals until last 2 weeks before opening. Come prepared to sing a few bars of a commercial jingle, real or imagined.

Note that while a wide range of playing ages may be considered, both actresses cast must be around the same playing age and Stephen must believably be the son of one of them.
