Cast Breakdown

The cast breakdown indicates a primarily Latino cast who can speak Spanish. However, diversity is welcomed and encouraged for ALL roles.

Hortencia Del Rio (age 35 -45)

Featured singer; a farmer's wife, a woman with strong convictions, she is not meek. She must work as a maid to help ends meet. She is a mother of a sickly child whom she devotes her energy to raising to experience a full life. A seemingly selfless soul, she cares deeply for her family and will do anything to protect them. Seeking actors with an earthy energy and strong singing ability.

Ernesto Del Rio (age 35 – 45)

Featured singer; a hardworking, worn, farm worker. He has a past that he isn't proud of but is a dedicated family man. He works constantly to provide his ill daughter with the surgeries she must have for her weak heart. He is good hearted and proud. Seeking actors with an earthy energy and strong singing ability.

Victoria Maria Del Rio (age 18 – 25)

Featured singer; the stunningly beautiful, but frail, daughter of Ernesto and Hortencia. She was born with a very weak heart and must endure multiple surgeries to remain healthy and strong. She is devoted to her parents and steps in to help the family when a crisis that could destroy everything occurs. She is somewhat sheltered from having lived a farming life. She has a sense of yearning for something more, a dreamer. Actor must sing well.

Armando Castillo (age 45 – 55)

The most powerful and wealthiest man of the town. The owner of the Castillo Casino, he runs it all and has it all. He is handsome, truly arrogant and a bit out of touch with the townspeople; all he cares about is his fortune, his power and the family reputation. He is concerned only about material aspects of life.

Fabiola Castillo (age 35 – 45)

The beautiful and elegant wife of Armando Castillo. She is devious, sneaky, and selfish. A former beauty queen who stays in a loveless marriage for the money and the power it brings to her. Her reputation is built on lying about her past and creating an appearance of what society and her husband expects of her. Should any of her secrets be revealed, her world would come tumbling down. She is an aging beauty, who is desperate for love and happiness in all the wrong ways.

Pilar Esperanza Castillo (age 18 – 25)

Featured singer, daughter of Fabiola and Armando Castillo. She is spoiled and very smart. Though raised with a silver spoon, she is not interested in wealth or power. She would rather use her power for good. She aspires to go to college and become a writer rather than marry for wealth and position. Actor must sing well.

Sebástian Jose Castillo (age 25 – 35)

Featured singer; sexy, super handsome, former bad boy. Has been having a clandestine revenge affair with his gorgeous stepmother, Fabiola (they are only a couple of years apart) to spite his father for throwing him out as a young man. He has been scarred and guilt ridden by the early death of his beloved mother, Sofia, when he was a boy. He has grown into a savvy business man and developed a conscience and need for true love. This character appears without his shirt on; operatic tenor or tenor with lungs. Must sing a gorgeous heart-wrenching ballad in Spanish like his life depends on it.

Dr. Jorge Ramiro Mendoza (age 45 – 60)

The somewhat respected doctor at the local hospital; a greedy and vengeful individual, although he has a great bedside manner with his patients. He is an opportunist first, medical doctor second. He is in love with Hortencia and will do anything to be near her.

Dr. Diego Mendoza (age 25 – 35)

The handsome and estranged son of Dr. Jorge Mendoza. Unlike his father, he is a kind and caring doctor with all his patients, no matter what their position. He desperately wants to be accepted by his father. He is in town at the request of Fabiola Castillo to escort her beautiful daughter, Pilar, to a Castillo fundraiser for the hospital. He falls quickly for the young girl when he meets her.

Sister Sonia (age 40 – 50)

Inside the play, she is an aging leading lady who now has been ''aged out'' and forced to play the nun. Resentful, she takes pleasure in helping create the twists and turns of the play. She is mischievous and delightful. As the nun at the town hospital, she works as a nurse alongside Dr. Diego Mendoza. A gentle, caring and compassionate individual, she knows everyone’s lies, truths and secrets.
