Boys for TARZAN, Summer 2016 - Gretna Theatre
Seeking two NON-UNION boys for the roles of Young Tarzan and Young Terk in TARZAN (see description below). Boys are invited to come to our LOCAL open call at which we are not making appointments (this audition day is for Equity Performer Auditions and full open call as well) on March 12, 2016. Full info about all auditions, including directions, on our website at www.gretnatheatre.com/auditions. OPEN CALL AUDITIONS AT MOVEMENT LABORATORY, 720 CUMBERLAND STREET (REAR ENTRANCE), LEBANON, PA 17042. Sign up sheet posted at 9:00 AM (unofficial lists will not be honored). AUDITIIONS 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Lunch Break from 1:00 - 2:00). We will not see young actors for these two roles at our New York City open call - to be seen in NYC you must submit through your agent/manager or email your materials directly to Casting Director Christian Saint-Girard. (See website) REHEARSALS are Tuesdays through Sundays during the day, typically 9:30 – 5:30, with Tech and Dress rehearsals prior to opening in both the afternoons & evenings. PERFORMANCES are five per week – Thursdays at 2PM & 7:30PM, Fridays at 7:30PM, Saturdays at 7:30PM and Sundays at 2PM. Monday is the typical cast day off. We are unable to schedule “special” auditions outside those times listed due to the availability of our accompanists and directors. It is incredibly rare for us to cast without an ‘in person’ audition. IMPORTANT! At the audition, please have your resume attached to the back side of your photograph, and be sure your full contact information is on your resume including where you live (we need to know for housing purposes if you are local, have the possibility of local housing, or are an out of town artist – whether we audition you in New York or locally). Note your correct height and weight as well as your vocal type on your resume. Have your music ready for the accompanist in your key and with the start and end places clearly marked. We may or may not have you sing your second piece, so sing what you consider your very best first. You may sing from the show if you choose. NOTE: These two children’s roles MUST be cast non-union; If cast from outside of the south central PA area and not commutable to the theatre, then housing will be provided in a private home for ONLY the young actor and ONE Parent or Legal Guardian who must be available to travel to and live in the Mt. Gretna area and may need to share a room with the young actor during the rehearsal period and throughout the run of the show; there is no provision for housing additional family or friends. Young Tarzan (Boy Soprano C3-E4 to portray age 10) Human child who loses his parents and is raised by apes. Curious with keen ingenuity. Desperately wants to fit in with his ape family. This major role is written for the “unchanged” boy soprano voice. Solos are challenging and mostly in the high register. Must be excellent actor/singer in good physical shape who would be comfortable shirtless and in a loin cloth style costume. Featured role, MUST be non-union. Young Terk (Boy Tenor G3-B4, 10-15) Sarcastic adolescent ape who is an outcast because of his meager size and inability to keep up physically with his ape siblings. He compensates with his eloquence and intelligence and finds a kindred spirit in Young Tarzan. Must be excellent actor/singer with a “teen tenor” pop sound in good physical shape who would be comfortable shirtless and in ape style costume. African American. Featured role, MUST be non-union.
