Readings will be done from the script and will be available at the sign in table

Character Breakdown

Eugene Morris Jerome: 15-16 years old; needs to feel comfortable talking directly to the audience (acts as a narrator); this character is based on Neil Simon's teenage years; undergoing puberty which leads to him turning to his older brother for advice on how he can see naked girls; keeping his eyes closely on his developing cousin (wondering what she looks like naked); loves baseball; concerned for his family, especially his over worked father; Brooklyn accent a plus but not necessary.

Stanley Jerome: 18-20 years old; Eugene's older brother; due to financial reasons, he must work at a factory; knows how to stand up for a co-worker when an issue develops at his job but has problems talking to his father; gives advice on growing up to Eugene; beginning to feel trapped; Brooklyn accent a plus but not necessary

Kate Jerome: 45-55 years old; Eugene's mother; the force trying to hold her family together but when issues arise does she have the emotional strength to keep going; opinionated; Jewish-Brooklyn accent strongly encouraged.

Jack Jerome: 45-55 years old; Eugene's father; working 2 jobs in order to support his family and his sister-in-law's family is wearing him down; has a lot of pressure at work and doesn't need any extra pressure at home but everyone turns to him for advice; patient; Jewish-Brooklyn accent strongly encouraged.

Blanche Morton: 40-50 years old; younger sister ; recent widowed mother of 2 girls; needed to move into the Jerome house because she was unable to support her children; with issues at the home though is she becoming more of a burden on her sister and brother-in-law?; indecisive; finally going to start dating but did she choose the right man?

Nora Morton: 15-16 years old; Eugene's recently developing cousin whom he fantasizes about; she has the chance to fulfill a dream to perform on Broadway but will her mother and uncle stand in her way?; resentful of her sister; angry over the death of her father.

Laurie Morton: 12-13 years old; Eugene's younger cousin; has a heart flutter so she can't exert herself much which leads to Eugene having to do all her work; very soft spoken; studious; quietly mischievous; seems innocent but has a grasp on what the others are up to.

The Addams Family

Character Breakdown

Gomez Addams: (male, tenor-baritone, playing age 30-50) A man who takes great pride in his family and revels in all it means to be an Addams. He struggles with having to keep his daughters secret from his wife, whom he adores more than death. Smart, comedic actor with tenor vocals, B flat to G sharp.

Morticia Addams: (female, alto, playing age 30-50) Attractive, leggy, the strength of the family. An easy comedic actress with a sexy, dry wit. Feels her husband is hiding something from her and will use any tactic to lure the secret out. A strong dancer/mover with alto/mezzo soprano vocals, G sharp to B flat.

Uncle Fester: (male, tenor, playing age 30-40). The androgynous family member who serves as the musicals narrator. He is larger than life, an energetic, joyous, child-like presence. A vaudeville style comedian with tenor vocals, C sharp to C sharp.

Wednesday Addams: (female, soprano, playing age 16-21) Wednesday is an attractive, in shape girl who has the same dry wit and sensibility of her mother. Finds love with a normal boy (Lucas) and wants to introduce his family to hers. Experiences the youthful drama that comes with first love. Lucas can actually put a smile on her face. Strong pop belt vocals, A sharp to E sharp.

Grandma: (female) She is a feisty 102 year old woman. Fun and quirky, but don't mess with Grandma. Comedic actress with strong character vocals, G sharp to F sharp.

Pugsley Addams: (male, tenor, playing age 10-14) Male actor who plays 12 years old. A charming, funny, husky boy who loves being tortured by his sister. He wants to ensure he won't lose his sister to her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands. Strong, high vocals. Voice not yet changed, A sharp to F sharp.

Lurch: (male, bass-baritone, playing age 30-60) A very tall male character, the Addams butler who knows all. He speaks in moans and groans without becoming a cartoon version of himself. His movement is always very slow Character actor with a low bass vocals, E flat to E sharp.

Mal Beineke: (male, tenor/baritone, playing age 30-50) Stuffy father of 19 year old Lucas and exasperated husband to his rhyming wife, Alice. At one time was a follower of The Grateful Dead but has lost that side of himself. Always looking out for his family. Male actor with high baritone/ tenor vocals, C sharp to A sharp.

Alice Bieneke: (female, soprano, playing age 30-50) Mother of 19 year old Lucas, devoted to her family so she puts aside her own desires. Quirky female who often speaks in rhyme. While at the Addams Family dinner party, she drinks a potion that causes her to let her hair down and speak her truth. Comedic actress with soprano / belt vocals, A flat to G sharp.

Lucas Bieneke: (male, tenor, playing age 18-24) Fell in love with WednesdayAddams and plans to marry her. Experiences the youthful pain and drama of young love and struggles with the differences between his family and the Addams family. Contemporary pop tenor vocals, C sharp to C sharp.

The Ancestors: Male and female ensemble singer/dancers who are smart performers. Trained dancers who sing and have a fun, quirky sensibility.
