Symphonic folk on a grand scale will be unleashed upon Auckland audiences when superlative singer /songwriter Sufjan Stevens performs at Auckland Arts Festival 2016.

A literary indie folk poet and multi-instrumentalist at the top of his game, Sufjan Stevens' sole NZ concert to date was in 2011. He's clocked up thousands of musical miles since then, playing to besotted fans who've packed auditoriums across the globe so they can lose themselves in the landscapes, characters, fears and joys described in his sprawling and seductive tunes.

The first show to sell out at the Edinburgh International Festival earlier this year, come March, Stevens will play the beautiful, symphonic folk suites of his seventh album, Carrie & Lowell - a welcome return to Steven's folk roots and named to 'Best of 2015' lists by Rolling Stone, the Los Angeles Times, and The Guardian UK amongst others.

Backed by a virtuosic, eight-piece band, fans can also expect selections from Stevens' illustrious career which has traversed electro-synth, orchestral folk, and banjo-led ballads, and a range of unique musical projects including a ballet score, an electronic concept record about the Chinese zodiac, and an album-length instrumental tribute to the Brooklyn-Queens expressway.

Add to the mix an immersive, all the bells and whistles, lighting and video production in the glorious Civic Theatre, and the experience will be a truly extraordinary and exhilarating event. Don't miss it.
