The Franklin Footlight Theatre presents Arsenic and Old Lace which is a farcical dark comedy. It was written by Joseph Kesselring in 1939 and was first performed on Broadway on January 10, 1941. The basic plot centers around Mortimer Brewster, a drama critic, who is doubting his own sanity and whether he should marry his long-time love, Elaine Harper. He learns that his two aunts are poisoning lonely old men with elderberry wine laced with arsenic. He has a crazy brother who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt and is digging the Panama Canal in the basement, which become graves for the men the aunts have murdered. The plot thickens when another brother arrives with another body. This brother is a murderer who has had plastic surgery to conceal his identity. Watch and laugh as Mortimer Brewster deals with his crazy, homicidal family.
