The Peck School of the Arts is at the center of the daily functioning of the University. Hundreds of performances, film screenings and exhibitions are offered each year by the Peck School to showcase your talents and to share your sense of pride and accomplishment. The School has a distinguished list of alumni active in all aspects of the arts and some who have pursued and been successful in professions outside the arts.

April 5 - UWM Dance Department Guest Talk: Tanya Wideman-Davis, 4pm, Zelazo 171
PLEASE NOTE UPDATED TIME AND LOCATION FOR THIS EVENT
Dance artist-in-residence Wideman-Davis will discuss her life and training as a professional dancer. She has been noted by New York Dance Fax as "distinctive for the power of her secure pointe work and her personality" and has trained with some of the premiere schools in the country, including The Academy of Movement and Music, The Joffrey Ballet School, Pacific Northwest Ballet, The Alvin Ailey American Dance Center, Chicago City Ballet, and The Dance Theatre of Harlem.

April 7 - Artists Now! Lecture Series - Paul Vanouse: Counter Laboratories, 7pm, Arts Center Lecture Hall
In this talk, Vanouse presents his artwork of the past ten years alongside the scientific controversies with which they sought to engage. Since the early 1990s his artwork has addressed complex issues raised by varied new techno-sciences using these very techno-sciences as a medium.

April 8 - Voice Master Class with Mezzo-Soprano Lorraine Disimone, 4-6pm, RecitAl Hall
Disimone has performed extensively in concert and on the opera stage, and has sung with the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and at Carnegie Hall. She is assistant professor in voice at the University of Tennessee.

April 9 - MA/MFA Spring Thesis Exhibition II, Opening Reception 5-7pm, Gallery hours: Tu-Sa, 11am-4pm, Inova/Arts Center
The second of two spring exhibitions of work by graduate students in the Department of Visual Art features six artists receiving their MFA degrees: Maria Bolivar, Jason Houchen, Richard Mutz, Brandon Bauer, Ashley Morgan and Leah Schrieber. Runs through April 24.

Department of Visual Art students exhibit work created in their first year of study at UWM. Runs through April 16.

Performance will include works by Libby Larsen, Mark Phillips, Vincent Persichetti, Michael Daugherty, and Alfred Reed.

April 10 - Art In Bloom, 2pm, Milwaukee Art Museum
Music students will be performing at the Milwaukee Art Museum during Art in Bloom.

April 11 - Fine Arts Quartet, 3pm, Helen Bader Concert Hall
The world-renowned Fine Arts Quartet, artists in residence at the UWM Peck School of the Arts, concludes the 2009-2010 season with quartets by Philip Glass, Efrem Zimbalist, and César Franck.
Tickets: $20 general/$12 students, seniors & UWM alumni, faculty & staff.
