Penobscot Theatre Company is pleased to announce its fourth annual Weekend in New York City, March 21-23, 2014. The centerpiece of the travel package are tickets to two Broadway shows: BIG FISH, a new musical featuring direction and choreography by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman (The Producers, The Scottsboro Boys); and the much-anticipated revival of A RAISIN IN THE SUN, starring Denzel Washington and Diahann Carroll. Travelers will enjoy round-trip deluxe motor coach transportation from Bangor; lodging at a Times Square hotel just steps from the theatre district; several specially planned meals; and access to behind-the-scenes experiences only Penobscot Theatre can provide.

"Last year's travelers were among the first to see the spectacular Kinky Boots, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for best musical," said PTC board president Mary Budd. "We're looking to continue our streak of good picks with these exciting new productions."

Big Fish is generating big buzz as a "show for everyone who loves musicals." (Variety) Based on the celebrated novel and acclaimed film of the same name, BIG FISH centers on Edward Bloom, a traveling salesman whose larger-than-life stories delight all but his adult son, who is determined to separate fact from fiction in his father's fantastic tales. The New York Times raves: "Spectacular. BIG FISH has big talents, a big cast, a big orchestra, big production numbers and really big special effects...Magic."

A RAISIN IN THE SUN is returning to Broadway with the dazzling star power of Denzel Washington and Diahann Carroll. Originally produced in 1959, this seminal American drama revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of an African-American family in Chicago. RAISIN was the first play written by an African-American woman to be produced on Broadway, where it won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play. The revival is running for a very limited time at the Barrymore Theatre, where the play first opened.

"Denzel needs no further elaboration, but I'm really excited about BIG FISH, too!" said PTC Artistic Director Bari Newport, who will help escort travelers to New York again this year. "I often talk about the theatre as a 'destination for imagination,' because here we fuel our imaginations and bring our imaginings to life. BIG FISH is all about imagination, and with the talent surrounding this show, I'm expecting BIG things!"

The complete weekend package is available for $1,200 per person based on double-occupancy lodging ($1,350 for a single room, $1,100 for a triple, and $1,000 for a quad). To register or obtain more information, call the Box Office at (207) 942-3333. Space is limited.
