Gulfshore Playhouse is preparing to begin their 2013-2014 season with the First Annual New Works Festival to take place August 12 - 17, 2013. The week-long festival is an exciting new addition to the programming that Gulfshore Playhouse is offering to the Naples, Fl audience.

Following an open submission process, Gulfshore Playhouse has selected three new plays to focus on during the festival. During this week, a team of professional actors and directors will work on these plays and give the three playwrights an opportunity to present their work to an audience in a staged reading on August 16 & 17, 2013.

Out of Orbit by Jennifer Maisel focuses on a mother and her teenage daughter. The mother is seeing the culmination of years of work literally take off in the form of the Mars Rover. The daughter has just been diagnosed with a learning disability that may be the answer to years of questions. Out Of Orbit is a dynamic play about this family's attempts to find themselves and each other in an increasingly disconnected and tenuous universe.

Point Last Seen by Scott Organ is the story of two friends facing the fact that one of them is about to be fired, which in turn has both men and their wives re-assessing their lives. Point Last Seen is a fascinating drama about paint swatches, fertility, sex, infidelity, and getting lost in the woods.

The Butcher by Gwydion Suilebhan tells the tale of two strangers, a housewife, and the butcher and sole proprietor of a Halal Supermarket in Suburban Virginia who witness a peculiar and disturbing act of violence. In the ensuing weeks, the butcher, his wife, a reporter, and one innocent family try to make sense of these bewildering circumstances in this beautiful play based on a real event.

"I am thrilled to be producing our First Annual New Works Festival. This is an important next step in continuing to contribute to the cultural landscape of Southwest Florida and American theatre by supporting contemporary playwrights and fostering the growth of their fantastic new plays. Each of the three featured plays is phenomenal and I know this will be a great opportunity for our audience to get in on something exciting and unique," statesKristen Coury, Founder and Producing Artistic Director of Gulfshore Playhouse.

Each of the three plays will have its own staged reading at the end of the week-long festival: Point Last Seen at 8:00pm on August 16, 2013, The Butcher at 3:00pm on August 17, 2013, and Out of Orbit at 8:00pm on August 17, 2013. All readings will be presented at the Norris Center, 755 8thAvenue South, Naples.
