Gulfshore Playhouse announces 10 semifinalists for their Second Annual New Works Festival to take place September 1-7, 2014. The New Works Festival will ultimately bring together four playwrights and a team of actors and directors for a week-long festival in which each playwright will hone their play and then present their work to an audience.

The ten plays that were selected as semifinalists are: A Cave in the Desert by Paco José Madden, Doublewide by Stephen Spotswood, Harlowe by Jennifer Lane, Headometry by Helen Banner, Rust on Bone by Bianca Sams, Shepherd's Bush by Scott C. Sickles, Split in Three by Daryl Fazio, Tabula Rasa by Kevin Brewer and Shane Breaux, Under This Roof by Barbara Kingsley, and The Velocity of Geography by James Farrell.

"We were overwhelmed with the amount of wonderful plays that were submitted for this year's festival. While we will only be able to present the work of four playwrights in our New Works Festival, we are thrilled to be able to announce these 10 plays as semifinalists. All of these plays are contributing to the landscape of American Theatre and Gulfshore Playhouse is honored to be fostering their work in this creative process," states Kristen Coury, Founder and Producing Artistic Director of Gulfshore Playhouse.

Gulfshore Playhouse announced a call for submissions for the 2nd Annual New Works Festival in November 2013. The first 100 submissions from playwrights and agents were considered for inclusion in the festival. The four finalists chosen to participate in the New Works Festival will be announced on June 16, 2014.

Subscriptions and Single Tickets are now available for Gulfshore Playhouse's 2014-2015 season. The season includes Katori Hall's The Mountaintop, Body Awareness by Annie Baker, Naples' newest holiday tradition in Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, Broadway smash hit Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, First Annual New Works Festival finalist: The Butcher by Gwydion Suilebhan, and from the author of Venus in Fur: The Liar by David Ives.
