No appointment necessary. The producer will run all aspects of these calls. Equity audition procedures are not in effect, and no Equity Monitor will be provided.

Please prepare one of the following two auditions:

a) Prepare 32 bars of a song and/or a 90-second monologue that will illuminate your ability to play a role in SOUTH PACIFIC and/or any of the plays. If singing, attend the morning session and bring sheet music; accompanist provided 9 – 12:30 only.

or

B) Prepare a brief monologue from one of the plays, or a monologue that will illuminate your ability to play one of the roles. Actors interested in HAMLET, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, and/or THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN should prepare a brief Shakespearean monologue

Ensign Nellie Forbush:

22-30. Optimistic, simple young Navy nurse from Little Rock, AR. Mezzo w/belt.

Emile de Becque:

French man, 40-55. Handsome. Wealthy. Cultured, dignified planter. Falls in love with Nellie. Widower of a Polynesian woman. Superb bass-baritone.

Lt. Joe Cable:

22-33. Formal, good-looking Marine officer. Falls in love with Liat. Strong baritone/tenor.

Bloody Mary:

Tonkinese, 35-55. Shrewd souvenir-dealer. Alto/mezzo.

Luther Billis:

25-35. Wily entrepreneur, friend to all, with a lust for the ladies. Baritone.

Henry/Sailor:

African American, 30s. House-servant to de Becque,

Two Male Sailors:

27-35. Skilled singer/dancers.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jon Jory, based on the novel by Jane Austen. Dir: Erin Hurley.

Hamlet:

Late 20s/30s. Noble, intelligent, deeply contemplative and masterfully insightful. Feels deeply. Suffers no fools, disgusted with the state of affairs. Aristocratic by birth, but without pretension. Assertive/courageous “when honor’s at the stake”. Inventive. A good prince; would have matured into a great king. Actor may also be cast in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Gertrude (HAMLET) / Lady Catherine de Bourgh (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE):

One actress plays both, in rep. Gertrude: Late 40s/60s. Enigmatic queen who is brought to painful insight into her own actions. Attracted to power. Capable of both love and deception with those closest to her. Lady Catherine: 40s+. Mr. Darcy’s wealthy aunt and Mr. Collins’s patroness. Elegant, peremptory and opinionated. Strong British dialect and language skills.

Laertes:

20s/early 30s. Loving brother and son; also passionate, impulsive and vengeful. Actor will also be cast in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Ophelia (HAMLET) / Elizabeth Bennet (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE):

One actress plays both, in rep. Ophelia: 20s/early 30s. Deeply sensitive. Dutiful; a fine, innocent young lady who descends into madness in response to the death of her father. Elizabeth: 20s. Young leading lady type. Lively, light-hearted, yet grounded. Keen intelligence, quick wit, stubborn. Second- eldest daughter. Strong British dialect and language skills.

Horatio:

20s/30s. Good friend to Hamlet. Unshakable integrity and loyalty. Actor will also be cast in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Rosencrantz:

20s/early 30s. Willing to spy on his friend to gain favor with the king. Flawed but formerly decent guy, corrupted by the circumstances. Actor may also be cast in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Mr. Darcy:

Late 20s-30s. Young leading man type. Handsome, 5’11” and up. Wealthy, solitary bachelor. Scrupulous, proud. Falls in love with Elizabeth. Strong British dialect and language skills. Actor will also be cast in HAMLET.

Mr. Bingley:

Late 20s-30s. Charming, cheerful, wealthy bachelor. Dotes on the beautiful Jane Bennet. Strong British dialect and language skills. Actor will also be cast in HAMLET.

Mr. Collins:

30s-40s. Clergyman. Cousin to Mr. Bennet, and heir to the estate. Long-winded, condescending sycophant; hoping to marry one of the Bennet girls. Character type. Strong British dialect and language skills. Actor may also be cast in HAMLET.

Lt. Wickham:

20s-30s. Handsome con-man. Smooth and untrustworthy. Flirts with Elizabeth; ruins and runs away with Lydia, the youngest sister. Strong British dialect and language skills. Actor will also be cast in HAMLET.

Claudius (HAMLET) / Sir William Lucas and Mr. Gardiner (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE):

CAST. One actor plays all three roles, in rep. Claudius: 50s/60s. Devious, ambitious Machiavel, capable of covering his tracks. Cunning, but human.Sir William: 40s-50s. Agreeable, genteel knight. Maker of merriment. Father of the practical Charlotte. Gardiner: 40s-50s. Sensible, affable. Comically hard of hearing. Elizabeth’s uncle. Kind, and quick to help in the Lydia scandal.

Polonius (HAMLET) / Mr. Bennet (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE):

CAST. One actor plays both, in rep. Polonius: 50s/60s. Key political advisor to the crown. Well-intentioned, if underhanded. Spies on family and courtiers. Long-winded, pompous, short on accurate insights. Requires comedic skill. Bennet: 40s-60s. Loving, but cool, father to the five Bennet girls; humorously indifferent husband. Strong British dialect and language skills.

Ghost / Player King:

CAST. 50s/60s. Sober, reflective, quiet depth yet capable of bursts of profound passion. Actor may also be cast in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE.

Player Queen (HAMLET) / Mrs. Bennet (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE):

CAST. One actress plays both, in rep. Player Queen: Traveling actress, capable of portraying genuine affection. Mrs. Bennet: 40s-50s. Excitable, impetuous, flighty wife. Obsessive hunter of husbands for her five unwed daughters. Strong British dialect and language skills.

SPT productions:

THE COMEDY OF ERRORS by William Shakespeare. Dir: Russell Treyz. 1st reh: 5/31. Runs 6/24-7/17.

Egeon:

50-70 (depending on age of the Antipholi). Father of the twins. An appealing character-man type who can tell a good story – but worried by the threat of a death sentence.

Antipholus of Syracuse:

20s-30s. Good-looking young adventurer. Actor must be able to play comedy well.

Antipholus of Ephesus:

20s-30s. Twin to Antipholus of Syracuse. Married to Adriana.

Adriana:

20s-30s. Married to Antipholus of Ephesus. Spirited wife and lady of means.

Luciana:

20s-30s. Adriana’s younger sister. Attractive, very eligible.

Abbess:

50-70. Forceful nun. Turns out to be Egeon’s wife, and mother of the Antipholi.

Dromio of Syracuse:

CAST. 20s-30s. Servant to Antipholus of Syracuse. Bouncy, energetic comic.

Dromio of Ephesus:

CAST. 20s-30s. Servant to Antipholus of Ephesus. Twin of Dromio of Syracuse, in every way.

THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN by William Shakespeare. No director (“the way Shakespeare’s company rehearsed”). 1st reh: 7/23. Runs 7/27– 8/7.

Theseus:

40s-50s. Duke of Athens. Commanding, sensitive. Marries Hippolyta.

Hippolyta:

30s-40s. Queen of the Amazons. Marries Theseus.

Emilia:

20s - early 30s. Hippolyta’s sister. Beautiful. At first reluctant in love; then becomes enamored of the cousins, and, after Arcite’s death, marries Palamon.

Arcite and Palamon:

Late 20s/30s. The noble kinsmen. Nephews to the King of Thebes; cousins and close friends to each other. Both fall in love with Emilia.

The Jailer’s Daughter:

Late teens/20s. Hopeful, innocent. Goes mad for the unrequited love of Palamon.

The Jailer:

50s/60s. Keeper of the prison where Palamon and Arcite are held for a time.

Pirithous:

40s-50s. Athenian general.
