SEEKING

Equity actors for various roles.

Casting Director note: It is imperative that we assemble an ETHNICALLY DIVERSE CAST. Actors of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to attend the audition. We will be making a very strong effort to cast actors of color.

All roles must be highly skilled at armed stage combat (broadsword). Additionally, all the male roles, with the exception of the doctor/porter should be at least 6’.

PREPARATION

Please prepare a brief classical monologue (in verse) of NO MORE THAN two (2) minutes. Bring picture and resume.

NEW YORK CLASSICAL THEATRE reinvigorates and creates audiences for the theatre by presenting free productions of popular classics and forgotten masterpieces that pop up in non-traditional public spaces throughout New York City.

EPA Procedures are in effect for this audition.

BREAKDOWN

DUNCAN: (male, 65+): King of Scotland, regal, wise, experienced ruler, great warrior past his prime, honorable and just, has experienced betrayal, understands his people and is beloved by them.

MALCOM: (male, mid 20s to early 30s): Son of Duncan, rightful heir to the throne of Scotland, intelligent, loves his father, loves his country, understands his own weaknesses, more of a scholar than a warrior, willingness to learn and grow, ready to rule his country.

MACBETH: (male, 45-55): handsome, charismatic, great warrior, inspirational leader, passionate, knows deep sorrow, emotionally damaged/hidden insecurity yet this does not show in his exterior, excellent voice/text skills.

BANQUO: (male, 45-55): honest, loyal to his family and his king, respects his peers, even tempered, good leader, insightful, close to his son, has a sense of humor.

MACDUFF: (male, late 30s – mid 50s): excellent warrior, prideful, loyal, struggles in his placement of love between his family and country, passionate, concerned about honesty and morality, more of a fighter than a statesman, comfortable in his own skin.

LENOX: (male or female, late 20s to late 30s): great fighter, hot tempered, loyal, young lord, not a politician but willing to switch loyalties if necessary.

ROSS: (male or female, late 20s to 40s): responsible, dependable, loyal yet not blind to the world of power around him, independent thinker, self-preserver, no children.

SETON: (male, early 20s to early 30s): Large man, foot soldier, fights with strength and not skill, loyalist to Macbeth, aggressive.

ANGUS: (male, early 20s to early 30s): Large man, career soldier, loyalist to Macbeth, prefers status quo, blind to power struggle around him.

FLEANCE: (male, early to late 20s): Son of Banquo, idealistic, patriotic, eager to learn and ready to pay his dues.

DOCTOR/PORTER: (male, 40s to 50s): Alcoholic, disappointed with himself, struggles with his place and purpose in the world yet shows concern for those around him.

LADY MACBETH: (female, mid 30s to late 40s): married to Macbeth, highly intelligent, sensual, daughter of royalty, a manipulator of power, fearless, lost a child many years ago.

WITCHES (3 females, early to late 20s): beautiful, powerful, in touch with innate sensuality, understands power and hierarchy, will play all the servants’ roles and participate in fighting.
