Breakdown

Preparation Instructions:

Prepare EITHER:

1) A brief monologue appropriate to the role desired for STEEL MAGNOLIAS and/or THE FOREIGNER under two minutes; OR

2) Prepare a one-minute monologue and 16 bars of a song appropriate to GODSPELL or RING OF FIRE. (for RING OF FIRE: Men should prepare a rock-a-billy or country or folk song and accompany yourself on guitar. Women should prepare an uptempo rock n roll song or a country ballad. All should express genuine Southern charm.) OR

3) If only interested in auditioning for the musicals then prepare TWO 16-bar selections as described above.

If singing, bring sheet music; accompanist provided.

Total audition time for either of the above should be no more than 2 minutes.

All actors must possess a good sense of physical comedy, improv, imagination and timing; the more special skills the better, ages range from early to late 20's. MUST BE STRONG VOCALLY.

early to mid 20's - high energy, charming, funny, gentle but with strength, the sort of person that others follow.

JOHN THE BAPTIST / JUDAS

mid to late 20's - attributes of both Biblical figures: Jesus' most ardent disciple and the rebel; charismatic, but in more of an overt revolutionary way with an undertone of sexuality.

JUDAS
He is both Jesus’ lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who betrays him.

MALE DISCIPLE #1
Very high energy, impish, playful.

MALE DISCIPLE #2
a little slow with a sweetness and innocence about him. Sings “All Good Gifts.”

MALE DISCIPLE #3
class clown, should be able to do a hundred voices and imitations.

FEMALE DISCIPLE #1
a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. Sings “Day by Day.”

FEMALE DISCIPLE #2
confident, bit of a show-off, jumps in before she really understands what’s going on.

FEMALE DISCIPLE #3
shy and little slow to get things, but once she does, she commits all the way. Has an “earth mother” warmth about her.

FEMALE #4
sassy, somewhat cynical, the most mature of the group. Sexy, but with an element of put-on.

FEMALE # 5
class clown, goofy and a cute. Must be a strong comedian.
