Roles in No Sisters are subject to change.

Olga: 30-40. The eldest of the Prosorov sisters and the matriarch of the family. A teacher at the high school. Unmarried, worn and increasingly wearing.

Masha: 25-35. The middle sister of the Prosorov family, and the darkest of spirit. Disappointed in her marriage and yearning for a more romantic life. Short tempered and witty.

Irina: 18-25. The youngest sister with the brightest of dreams, hopes for the future, and ideals. Yearns desperately to return to Moscow where she believes everything will be better. Unable to love Tuzenbach, despite his endless affection and advances.

Andrei: 25-40. (Also in No Sisters) The Prosorov brother, once a hopeful academic and scholar. Teased by his sisters frequently, and progressively loses faith in himself. Trapped in an increasingly fraught marriage with Natasha.

Natasha: 25-35. (Also in No Sisters) Andrei’s love interest and wife. At first shy and easily shaken, but increasingly dominant in the household. Demands only the best for her children.

Kulygin: 35-50. (Also in No Sisters) Masha’s husband. Latin teacher at the high school. Kind and earnest, and at times awkward. Aware of Masha’s frustration and of her infidelity, and yet forgiving and loving.

Vershinin: 40-55. Lieutenant in the army. The partner in Masha’s love affair and A philosopher, passionate with his words and beliefs. Melancholy, unhappy in his marriage, romantic.

Tuzenbach: 30-40. (Also in No Sisters) Lieutenant in the army, desperate for Irina’s affection. Pure, honest and often taunted by other men, especially Solyony. Frequently described as unattractive. Ultimately willing to die for his love for Irina.

Solyony: 20-40. (Also in No Sisters) Captain in the army, in love with Irina and competitive for her love with Tuzenbach. Often viewed as crude and abrasive. Socially awkward misfit with underlying violence.

Chebutykin: 50+. Army doctor. An older man with great affection for the sisters, loved their mother, and lavishes his place in the family home. Eventually falls prey to a profound existential crisis and alcohol.

Fedotik: 20-30. (Also in No Sisters) Enthusiastic and childlike officer who brings Irina presents. Obsessed with gadgets and the troubles of the world do not dent his positivity.

Rohde: 20-30. Officer obsessed with physical fitness and coaching the local boys. Present, honest, lover of nature and the physical world.

Ferapont: 60+. Older man, somewhat inept servant in the local county council, who is losing his hearing, his bearings and his mobility. Becomes Andrei’s unlikely confidante.

Anfisa: 65+. (Also in No Sisters) Family maid and caregiver. Raised the sisters, beloved by them. No longer physically able to do everything she once could. Trying to succeed and be of help despite her advanced years.
