Breakdown

2015-16 season, Equity contract roles:

WAIT UNTIL DARK Frederic Knott, adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher
Contract dates: Sep 28 – Oct 25, 2015.

Susan − early/mid 30s, recently blinded in an accident, she is trying to cope with her disability by refusing to see herself as a victim. Determined, courageous, intelligent, attractive and likable, she is vulnerable with surprising hidden reserves of strength.

Mike − 30s to 40s. Likable, dependable and handsome, he appears to be trustworthy and protective of Susan. He is in truth a dangerous but charming ex-con capable of violence but has a streak of decency.

Carlino − 30s to 40s. A street smart, blue collar type who is believable as both a detective and an ex-con thug. He is a bullying, bearlike man who mostly does what he’s told.

Roat − late 30s to 40s, extremely dangerous, threatening and sinister, he also masquerades as two distinctly different characters. He is the villain and mastermind of the plot and determined to get what he wants. He is highly intelligent and utterly ruthless.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL by Christopher Schario
Contract dates: Dec 1 – Dec 14, 2015.

This adaptation features a small cast playing multiple roles and one actor playing Scrooge. All actors perform narration of Dickens’ text, as well as scene work. Both British dialect and Standard American Speech are used in this adaptation. Show requires versatile actors who make playful choices and are good with language.

All AEA roles (Scrooge, Bob and Mrs. Cratchit, Fan) are CAST. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

THE LADIES FOURSOME by Norm Foster
Contract dates: Jan 4 – Jan 31, 2016.
Directed by Judith Ivey

This comedy is in the style of ''Designing Women'' or ''Sex in the City.''
All women need to have sharp comedic skills and timing.

Connie − 50-55. An intelligent attractive local TV news anchor, she is a sassy, flirtatious, confident and promiscuous woman. ie. Samantha in Sex in the City. Her bravado covers her vulnerability.

Margot − 50-55, jaded, a strong sense of sarcasm, successfully runs a construction business. Her workaholism cost her both her marriage and daughter. Drinks a bit too much.

Tate − 42. She appears to be the ''nice, perfect, friendly, pretty, wealthy one'' with the perfect life, yet secretly she wants something different. She can seem a bit naïve, innocent, thin-skinned and wrapped a little too tightly by her need to follow the rules. ie. Charlotte in Sex in the City.

Dory − late 30/early 40’s. Attractive, confident. She is extremely competitive. She once dreamed of an exciting career as a singer but is now married with 6 kids, living in the middle of the Canadian wilderness and beginning to face that reality. She is new to the group, and trying to fit in.

WHAT RHYMES WITH AMERICA by Melissa Jane Gibson
Contract dates: Feb 22– Mar 20, 2016.
Directed by Christopher Schario

We are looking for actors who understand broken hearts and comedic skills.

Hank − 40s. Once a successful man with a happy family, he is now a floundering ''lost man;'' divorced, unemployed and estranged from his teenage daughter. Still in love with his wife, he is pathetically attempting to keep their relationship alive. Moonlighting as an extra at the MET to pay the bills, he decides to try dating in an attempt to feel better and move forward in his life.

Marlene − 16-½. Hank’s daughter. She is caught in the middle of an awkward divorce between her non-communicating parents. Intelligent, perceptive and wise beyond her years, she expects a lot of herself. An aspiring song-writer struggling with normal teenage angst, she often appears to be more emotionally mature than her parents. Plays some guitar and sings a little.

Lydia − 40’s. Attractive yet relationship challenged, she remains a socially awkward middle-aged virgin. Intelligent, tightly wrapped, with a somewhat sweet, obsessive and eccentric personality, she is also a short story writer recently fired from her job as a medical copywriter. Recovering from the recent death of her father, she is feeling vulnerable and looking to connect with someone.

Cheryl − CAST (replacement only). 40’s. Working as a supernumerary at the opera, she is a passionate, blunt, aspiring and frustrated actress desperately hoping for her moment to shine. She delivers a wickedly good Lady Macbeth, and wears her anger like a Valkyrie’s armor.

CROSSING DELANCEY Susan Sandler
Contract dates: Apr 18 – May 15, 2016

Bubbie − 70’s, Jewish. Feisty, strong, opinionated, extraverted, and sharp-witted, she immigrated to the United States as a young girl and has lived on the lower east side of New York City ever since. She fiercely loves and protects her granddaughter.

Isabelle − late 20’s/early 30’s. Jewish. A likable and intelligent woman. A bookish dreamer, she is idealistic in her notions of love. ''Izzy'' adores her ''Bubbie'' and must balance the old school world of her grandmother, with her own ''modern'' aspirations.

Hannah − 50’s, Jewish. A professional matchmaker, she is a nosy, pushy, wheeler-dealer and salesman.

Tyler − early 40s. A well known writer of fiction, handsome, arrogant, exceedingly charming and self-involved.

Sam − 30’s. Jewish. An extremely likable, friendly and kind man who is proud to be a pickleman on the lower east side. Polite and intelligent with a charming sense of humor, he is intuitively aware of others needs and feelings and wise beyond his years. He is totally smitten with Izzy.

Theatre’s statement: The producers are open to non-traditional casting. Minorities are encouraged to audition and to send pictures/resumes.
