Breakdown

A maniacal scheme of fantastical proportions lurks deep inside world-renowned mega-architect Gregor Zubrowski’s post-modern steel and glass structures. His commanding presence and curious creative process both titillate and manipulate design professionals and patrons alike into submission. After he casually steals a career-making project, two fledgling architects dare to challenge this monster-builder at his own game. Expect the unexpected from this absurdly funny, wickedly smart new comedy.

CAST BREAKDOWN:

TAMSIN: (30s) Live-in girlfriend to Gregor Zubrowski, one of the world’s great “starchitects.” Tamsin is an easy-going gold-digger, a shrewd babe who looks good and plays naughty. Dumb like a fox, fun and sexy. Old friends with Rita

RITA: (30s) Struggling humanist architect in partnership (professional and personal) with Deiter. She favors preservationist aesthetics, and sensitive urban design. She is also a woman of deep ambition. Intelligent, attractive, sharp and grounded.

PAMELA: (50s) Born to old, East-Coast money, Pamela is an old time Socialite (and filthy rich) who is enough of a rebel that she married an unlikely blue-collar guy (Andy) for love. Spends her time in the dubious decoration of her many homes and supporting progressive causes. She has Rich-Person Myopia, but also a good heart and can be pretty canny. Has one of the weirdest happy marriages of all time.

DIETER: (30s) Struggling humanist architect in partnership (professional and personal) with Rita. Dogged and brilliant. Driven by a Cause -- to rebut the egoism, ugliness and tyranny of post-modern architectural design. A crusader, tough and unafraid.

ANDY: (50s) Pamela’s husband. A salt-of-the-earth, self-made, blue-collar guy, who made his vast fortune as a contractor building tract homes and malls for the average American. No bullshit. Enormously secure in his own achievements, and without pretension. Loves the important things in life. The track, his boat, and above all, his wife.

NOTES: The play inhabits a comic universe, and also has serious and passionate points to make. Actors need to have a good ability with comedy, but rooted in committed and truthful playing.

All roles are acceptable for non-traditional casting. Artists Rep seeks and encourages participation by Actors of all races and ethnicities.
