Breakdown
The Law of Return tells the timely story of Jonathan Jay Pollard, a civilian, naval intelligence analyst, who sold government secrets to Israel during the 1980’s. This play focuses on Pollard’s relationships with his commanding officer, Steve Harris, and his Israeli contact, Rafi Eitan during his years as a spy. Pollard has been serving a life sentence since 1987 and is scheduled for release in November, 2015, however, with the current peace talks between Israel and Palestine he is being used as a bargaining chip and may be released sometime this year.

JONATHAN JAY POLLARD
Male Mid 20s-Early 30s, Caucasian. Pollard is extremely smart and knows it. So much so, that he usually assumes he is the smartest guy in the room. (Think Jesse Eisenberg in The Social Network) A computer programmer; he is a quick thinker, albeit a bit of a funny odd-ball, and a definite outsider. Has a cockiness about him despite his being a complete nerd. Actor must be extremely likeable and sympathetic to the audience. Young Paul Giamatti type, but Jewish.
STEVE HARRIS
Male 40s-mid 50s, Any Ethnicity. A naval officer with a chip on his shoulder. A real military man. He is a bit of a ball buster, but one you can love because of his heart and self- deprecating sense of humor. He is hard driven and tough with a bit of a dark side. Harris knows who he is and is able to deal with the laughter that is often at his own expense.
RAFI EITAN
Male 60s-early 70s, Caucasian. Eitan has spent his life doing the impossible for Israeli intelligence. He has gravitas with a capital “G”. A seductive, Machiavellian type who can be exceedingly charming one moment and explosively angry the next depending on which will get him what he wants. As a young man he was a Nazi hunter, often strangling them to death with his bare hands once he found them. These days one can just as easily picture him bouncing a baby on his knee.
