BREAKDOWN

ANNE:

40s. Andre’s daughter. She struggles to balance caring for a difficult parent and the other demands of her personal life, especially her romantic relationships. She is sensitive and loving, but is under immense pressure.

PIERRE:

40s. Anne’s partner. He is resentful of Andre’s presence in his home, and is trying to take care of Anne while imposing some boundaries on the old man. He is occasionally cruel and threatening, but genuinely sensitive to Anne’s needs.

LAURA:

30s. A professional caretaker. She is kind to Andre and seems to understand him. Professional and positive.

WOMAN:

40s. Plays a number of characters in the play who Andre experiences as threatening strangers. Must have the ability to be both sensitive and sinister, and have a strong presence.

MAN:

40s. Plays a number of characters in the play who Andre experiences as threatening strangers. Must have the ability to be both sensitive and sinister and have a strong presence.

The following role has been CAST. Actors may be considered for possible replacement if needed:

ANDRE:

(Role CAST) Late 70s- Early 80s. A complex man who is slowly losing his mind to dementia. At turns ferocious, and at others charming and vulnerable. He slowly unravels along with his memory. (Role Cast)
