Breakdown
Note: All actors (except one) play multiple roles in a fast-paced, quick-change farce. All roles are physically demanding and require specific dialect & character work. Seeking who make bold, smart choices.
Actor 1:
Female. 30s/40s. To play LUCY VATELIN: the wife of a French lawyer. Straight-laced, fashionable, sensible and modest with a streak of adventure. MME. PINCHARD: A bit older. Deaf, gassy, and sweetly in love with her husband.
Actor 3:
Male. 30s/40s. Only plays VATELIN: A Paris lawyer. A bit of a nerd, with glasses and a bow tie. Bright and enthusiastic. Above all, he loves his wife even though he can act like a real dingdong (a turkey) sometimes.
Actor 4:
Male. 30s/40s. To play REDILLON: A handsome, refined, French dandy with high standards. His clothes are ostentatious and flamboyant. He has a good heart underneath his lecherous exterior. BELLBOY: A 17-year-old virgin who is trying his best to keep the hotel running against terrible odds.
Actor 5:
Female 30s. To play MME. PONTEGNAC: A tough Parisian woman with a gruff exterior. Suspicious of her husband’s every move. A bulldog who likes fine clothes and fine appearances. FABIOLA: An Italian sex-pot. She is alternately elated and suicidal within the same breath. Like Anna Magnani with a touch of Lucille Ball thrown in. Very Italian. MANDY: A savvy New York seductress with Manhattan moxie. At times a breathy, sweet siren like Marilyn Monroe. A smart cookie, in control, and looking for love – and knows what she likes. SEXY FRENCH MAID: A French maid who is sexy. Slight French accent.
