LEAD ROLES:
NIKOLA TESLA – Male, late 20s – mid 30s to play a huge range of ages. A genius thinker with a visionary mind. An immigrant with a near obsessive drive to change the world, Nikola is hugely charismatic but socially awkward; a dreamer in his own world, haunted by the ghosts of his past. Requires an actor of extreme range and skill. VOCAL RANGE: Bari-Tenor or Tenor with strong G or possibly A with strong falsetto. Very strong singer with range from pop to intense dramatic contemporary theatre.
THOMAS EDISON – Male, mid 30s – mid 40s. The most successful man in America. Powerful. Shrewd, with a careful eye on commerce and a fiercely protective hold on his legacy. VOCAL RANGE: Strong Baritone to F.
JP MORGAN – Male, 50 – 60. A ruthless titan of industry. Charming, debonair, terrifying – and sexy. He’s a charismatic showman. Also plays J. EDGAR HOOVER – Head of the FBI. Ruthless, vindictive, all-powerful. VOCAL RANGE: Very strong Baritone to F.
MOTHER – Female, mid 30s – 40. Tesla’s first inspiration. A resourceful and inventive woman, and a warm, nurturing mother. Also plays KATHARINE – An elegant social mover and shaker. Married, but secretly in love with Tesla. VOCAL RANGE: Lyric Mezzo to D.
ELEKTRA – CAST.
GEORGE WESTINGHOUSE – Male, mid 30s – 50, a big man. A highly successful and accomplished businessman with an eye on the future. Loyal, and a bit like Falstaff, he is Tesla's true friend and supporter. Also plays DR. SOUTHWICK – the inventor of the electric chair and KOLEMAN – Tesla’s assistant at Colorado. VOCAL RANGE: Baritone to F.
SARAH BERNHARDT- Female, early 30s – early 40s. A handsome woman. A star. The greatest actress alive, in love with Tesla, audacious, brilliant, capricious and charismatic. VOCAL RANGE: Powerful Pop Belt to D.
FLORA DODGE – Female, late 20s – early 30s. Attractive/cute, has pluck. Flora is a suffragette. Driven, idealistic, and in love with Tesla. Also plays MISS SKERRITT – Tesla’s attentive secretary. Should be good mover. VOCAL RANGE: Soprano to G.
ANNE MORGAN – Female, 25 – 35. Classically attractive. The daughter of JP Morgan, she is a wealthy socialite in love with Tesla. Also plays MISS ARBUS – Tesla’s attentive secretary. Should be good mover. VOCAL RANGE: Soprano/Mezzo mix – to C# or D.
FEATURED ENSEMBLE ROLES:
ROBERT UNDERWOOD JOHNSON – Male, 40 – 50. Katharine’s husband, he is a socially prominent journalist, and a great friend and supporter of Tesla. Highly educated and sophisticated, he’s a little stiff. Plays other roles, too. VOCAL RANGE: High Baritone or Tenor.
ANITAL – Male, late 20s – late 30s, open on type. He is Tesla’s friend and fellow engineer. Intense, very passionate about his work. Also plays HAROLD BROWN – noted electrical engineer and the developer of the electric chair. (Also intense, very connected )VOCAL RANGE: High Baritone, Tenor.
DANIEL MACMILLAN – Male, 40s – 50s, open on type. New York state senator, he is a supporter of the electric chair. A political mover and shaker, not averse to a backroom deal. VOCAL RANGE: Tenor.
DANE – Male, seeking a youthful-looking actor/dancer/singer, 18 and up, to play a boy of 12. Dane is Tesla’s older brother: the star, full of promise. (Actor will play other roles as well.) Should be good dancer. VOCAL RANGE: High Baritone or Tenor with falsetto.
NIKO – Male, seeking a youthful-looking actor/dancer/singer, 18 and up, to play a boy of 12. Niko is Tesla as a child. (Actor will play other roles as well.) Should be good dancer. VOCAL RANGE: Tenor with falsetto.
3 FEMALE DANCER/SINGERS/ACTORS – Female, 20 – 60, all types. Seeking good dancer/singer/actors who will play multiple roles. VOCAL RANGE: Open.
