BREAKDOWN

The musical is set in New York and Southern Turkey from 1913 to 1915. A New York newspaper reporter finds himself in an Armenian village at the time of the Turkish genocide of the Armenian people. Varying from joyousness to tragedy, the story is told through the letters he writes to his American girlfriend. In these, he sets forth the inspiring but tragic and true tale of the Armenians living in the shadow of Musa Ler (Moses' Mountain)

We are seeking to comprise an ethnically diverse cast. Actors of all ethnicities encouraged to submit

SEEKING:

JASON KARRAS
(Male, mid 20’s to early 30’s, any ethnicity) Born in Buffalo. He moved to New York City where he has become a rising journalist and is sent to be a foreign correspondent, traveling through newsworthy areas in advance of and during the beginning of World War I. He is aloof but observant and enthusiastic about his career. Tenor.

CAROLE
(Female, early to mid 20’s, any ethnicity) She lives in New York City and is in love with Jason. She does not want Jason to leave New York to travel all the way across the ocean immediately before World War I. She serves as the narrator of this piece and jumps back and forth in time. As a woman in her 20’s, she is young, beautiful, and naïve. When telling the story in the present, 1948, after WW2, she is a mature woman in her 50’s. Actress for this role should be versatile, and a good singer who can also dance. Alto / Low Soprano.

ANGELIQUE der KALOUSTIAN
(Female, late 20’s- early 40’s any ethnicity) She and her husband have returned to his ancestral home in Anatolia after his father passed away. She is Parisian and makes clear her desire to return to France as soon as possible. Everything about her is French and she feels above the local population. In the second act she changes to become much more sympathetic as she begins to personally feel all that is going on around her. Must be an exceptional singer and actor who is able to do a strong French accent. Alto / Low Soprano.

1 FEMALE ENSEMBLE MEMBER
(Female, mid 30’s any ethnicity) A dancer who is a strong singer and can sing close harmonies.
