Breakdown

SYNOPSIS: Atlanta, 1979. The Atlanta Child Murders grip the entire city. Single mother Vivian copes with the disappearance of her young son while working tirelessly to give a fresh start to her troubled teenage daughter. When a handsome stranger enters her life with promises of new love, she soon learns that nothing is as it seems. This award-winning play by one of America’s most promising young playwrights pulses to life with extraordinary grace and raw emotional power.

Seeking:

VIVIAN:
Female. African-American. A once pretty woman with an unkempt and tired face. A defeated disposition. Vivian is a single mother of two whose son is missing during the height of the Atlanta Child Murders of the late 1970s. She is struggling to raise her troubled teenage daughter. Stage age range: late 30s-early 40s.

LATOYA:
Female. Biracial. Vivian’s daughter. A nymph with a pretty face and a terrible temper. A womanly body for her age. Stage age range: 14-16. Seeking teen actors only. Material for this character is very mature.

GLADYS/BLACK MOTHER/PRETTY MOTHER:
Female. African-American. Stage age range: 20s-30s. Seeking versatile actresses with both comedic and dramatic skills.

DAMITA/BLACK MOTHER 2/PHOENIX:
Female. African-American. Stage age range: 20s-30s. Seeking versatile actresses with both comedic and dramatic skills.

HUGH:
Male. African-American. Handsome, charismatic and mysterious. Stage age range: 30s-40s. This character must be comfortable with sexual situations onstage. Actor should be comfortable being shirtless.

JIMMY/MICKY/POLICE OFFICER:
Male. Caucasian. Stage age range: late teens-30s. Seeking actors with both comedic and dramatic skills.
