Please prepare one 2-minute monologue OR 2 contrasting monologues. Please bring a photo and resume, stapled back-to-back.
Wild, multi-character, globe-hopping tale of love in all of its complexity. From the Bronx to India to the Kenyan coast, the author spins a rich, funny and deeply moving tapestry that explores what it means to pursue, run away and finally surrender to the siren song of love and desire.
Seeking (all roles are available):
Tony:
Caucasian man, 20s. A guy’s guy whose newfound love has invigorated his romantic side. Energetic and boyishly earnest, and perhaps bewildered by his passion. Willing to risk everything he has just to feel something.
Priya:
Indian woman, 20s. Radiantly beautiful, poetic, ethereal. Searching for a real connection. She’s trapped by her parent’s expectations, but she’s sure there’s something more in store for her. Actress must be able to speak with an Indian accent.
Lydia / Surayya:
One actress plays both female characters, 30s. Lydia: African American. Studious and practical. Knows what she wants and doesn’t play any games. Surayya: Kenyan. Calming, spiritual presence. Has found what makes her content, but is apprehensive about introducing her wife to her very traditional family. Actress must be able to speak with a Kenyan accent.
Gupta / Fen:
One actor plays both male characters, 20s. Gupta: Indian. A doctor. Traditional, devout, often pushy and very practical. Loving, good-natured person whose affections are unfortunately unwelcome. Actor must be able to speak with an Indian accent. Fen: African American. Goofy, restless. The guy always at the party. Everyone’s friend, but not sure what he wants for himself.
Francisco / Rajiv:
One actor plays both male characters, teens. Francisco: Latino. Talks like he’s from the street, but is most at home in front of a computer. Ambitious, charming, unexpectedly deep. Too smart for his own good. Actor must be able to speak with a Latino accent. Rajiv: Indian. Priya’s provocative younger brother. Charming and playful; a bit of a rogue. He’s questioning his gender identity, and can be intensely sexual. A risk-taker, daring. Actor must be able to speak with an Indian accent.
Sonya / Pilar:
One actress plays both female characters, 20s. Sonya: Caucasian. Childish, brash and bursting with life. Spontaneous and irrepressible. Pilar: Latina. Bold, brassy and aggressive. Puts on an attitude to disguise how lonely she is. Actress must be able to speak with a Latin American accent.
Theatre states that non-Equity actors will be seen as time permits (i.e. whenever there is no Equity Member auditioning or waiting to audition).
