THE SUBSTANCE OF BLISS
A World Premiere by Tony Glazer
Directed by Evan Bergman

SPT TIER 4 + pension/health. Housing provided for out-of-area performers.

Rehearsals: The week of December 14 – 20 (one week unpaid break for Christmas December 21 – 27 – pending AEA approval), rehearsals resume Dec 28, 2015.
Performances: January 14 thru February 14, 2016

Synopsis: It’s 2 AM do you know who your children are? Substance of Bliss is the sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking story of parents, Paul and Donna, who sit in the backyard of their home, late at night, waiting for their troubled fifteen-year-old son to return so that they can take him to a drug rehabilitation center. As they wait, they find themselves questioning their home renovation choices, the political and religious persuasions of some of their neighbors, the feral cats in their yard and, ultimately, their decisions to marry and have the child that is causing them so much trouble. Both insightful and cautionary, the play explores the realities of our consumer driven culture and the essence of happiness.

Seeking:

Paul:
Late 30’s, married to Donna. Live in the suburbs.

Donna:
