Breakdown

Murder for Two

Book and Lyrics by Kellen Blair
Book and Music by Joe Kinsman
A killer musical comedy.

A fateful night. A surprise party. A great American novelist is killed…fatally. A small town policeman with dreams of making detective jumps at the chance to prove his sleuthing skills and find the killer before the real detective arrives! Murder for Two is a perfect blend of music, mayhem, and murder with a twist - one actor investigates the crime, the other plays (all) the suspects, and did we mention, they both play piano?! A witty and winking homage to old-fashioned murder mysteries.

Rehearsals begin Monday, October 24, 2016. Rehearsal schedule is TBD - with possible daytime rehearsals involved. There will likely be 4 hour blocks Mondaythrough Friday and as much as 7 out of 8 1/2 hours on Saturday. Sunday is designated as AEA day off.

Performances are Thursday, November 17, 2016 through Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Stage West, 821 W Vickery. [Note: performances will be Thur nights at 7:30, Fri & Sat nights at 8:00 and Sun matinees at 3:00 – Special Note: There will be no performance on Thursday November 24 (Thanksgiving) but we will have the rest of the weekend.]

Please note: The show requires both actors to play piano - to accompany themselves and each other.

MARCUS MOSCOWICZ (male) - an ambitious young officer investigates the crime and also provides voices for two characters in flashback: The Chief - Marcus’ grizzled boss & Vanessa - Marcus’ former partner

One actor plays all the SUSPECTS (male or female):
DAHLIA WHITNEY - the victim’s loopy widow
MURRAY & BARB FLANDON - the Whitneys’ bickering neighbors
STEPH WHITNEY - an overeager grad student
BARRETTE LEWIS - a self-incriminating ballerina
DR. GRIFF - a friendly local psychiatrist
TIMMY, YONKERS, & SKID - members of an antiquated boys’ choir
HENRY VIVALDI - a late arrival

The final character is Officer Lou, who isn’t played by an actor. Marcus and the suspects address him as needed.
