Auditions by appointment only by emailing athenswestauditions@gmail.com. Please include in your email which days and times you are available, as well as an indication as to whether or not you belong to Actors’ Equity Association. You will be emailed back with a confirmed appointment. Please note that actors must audition in person in order to be considered.

PREPARATION

Preparation:        
The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. Please bring a resume and
headshot.

Auditionees interested in reading the play in advance may do so at the Lexington
Downtown Public Library, 140 East Main Street, where the script is kept on reserve.

Sayre Middle School is located at the intersection of N. Limestone Street and W. 2nd Street, directly across Limestone from Columbia Steakhouse.

Jordan Harrison’s Maple and Vine begins rehearsals Monday, March 16, 2020, and runs at the Pam Miller Downtown Arts Center April 10-26, 2020.

ABOUT THE THEATRE
AthensWest Theatre Company operates on an SPT 3 contract with Actors’ Equity Association. Roles are available for both Equity and non-Equity performers, and non-Equity performers have the opportunity to earn EMC points through this production. Salary for Equity actors is $343 plus pension/health. Stipend for non-Equity actors is $400.

EPA Procedures are in effect for audition.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of audition.

BREAKDOWN

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN Note: actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

Please note that the role of Katha has been cast, and will be played by Marianne Miller.

Katha: female, White / European Descent, 30-40 Married to Ryu. Beaten down by modern city life and looking for a change.

Ryu: male, Asian, 30-40 Married to Katha. Uncertain of Katha’s plans to live a simpler life, but supportive.

Dean: male, White / European Descent, 30-45 Advocates living a simpler lifestyle (in the 1950s!) but has secrets that threaten that simple life.

Ellen: female, White / European Descent, 30-45 Charismatic salesperson for a 1950s lifestyle. Also plays Jenna, Katha’s coworker.

Roger: male, White / European Descent, 30-45 Serious factory manager, with a secret. Also plays Omar, Katha’s coworker.
