Breakdown
Aldonza (Dulcinea): a wild, lusty woman with a jaded look at life from experience. Rough exterior hiding a gentle heart that’s hurting. Mezzo (originally to Ab5, keys to be set on actress, score requires a facile two-octaves) The Manservant (Sancho Panza): Don Quixote’s pragmatic but loyal servant & sidekick. Tenor (to G4, frequently high tessitura, optional to B4) The Governor (The Innkeeper): A large and powerful man, he is kind as the Innkeeper, but as the Governor is the leader of the inmate society in the prison. Bass (to C#4) The Duke (Dr. Sanson Carrasco): As the Duke he is sidekick to the Governor; however, when he plays Dr. Carrasco, he is Antonia’s fiancée. He thinks Don Quixote mad and insists that he come home and treated for his malady. Baritone (to Db4) The Padre: kindly, sympathetic cleric. Baritenor (to G4) Antonia: self-centered; fiancee of Dr. Sanson Carrasco. Soprano (to F5) The Housekeeper: strong of body & religious/moral convictions. Mezzo (to F5), could also be cast as Contralto (usable F3 to F4) The Barber: comic role. Tenor (to G4) Maria Captain of the Inquistion Also seeking strong, masculine men for the roles of The Muleteers (Pedro, Anselmo, Jose, Juan, Paco, Tenorio), Prison Guards, and the roles of Fermina, and the Morrish Dancers. All must sing well. *Seeking an actor who also plays acoustic guitar really well.
