Breakdown
Seeking:
Jon Trachtman (male, 25-35): A musician and appears to be a smart, savvy guy. Think Tom Cruise in “Risky Business”. Although he clearly is the leader of the operation, he also tends to have tunnel vision.
Leslie Arthur (male, 25-35): A musician in the band with Jon. He is a charming and intelligent, (though rather nervous), guy who is quite popular with the ladies who can’t resist trying to mother him. Performer must be comfortable in ladies clothes
Kate Dennis (female, 23-35): Jon’s fiancée, even though she is having a passionate affair with his roommate Leslie. Kate is a smart and aggressive young woman who expresses her opinions openly, but still needs to feel wanted and desired.
Mr. Jansen (male, 40-60): The cranky and sometimes bitter, nosey landlord in Jon and Leslie’s building. He is a “do as I say, not as I do” type of person who lacks any sort of manners and is not above raiding the fridge of his tenants. Will need to be able to throw a young woman over his shoulder and carry her on and off stage.
Floyd Spinner (male, 35-60): The IRS agent charged with investigating Jon and Leslie. He comes across as a straight-laced no-nonsense man at first glance, but he is revealed to be someone who is more than a little fumbling and desperate for somebody to like him. This is a great comic part and will require an actor who can play serious and stoic one moment and absolutely insane the next.
Vivian Trachtman (female, 45-65): Jon’s extremely conservative and straight-laced mother. Like the actor who plays Floyd, this will be a great comic part with the potential to be a scene-stealer. The actress will need to be able to play stoic at one moment, out of control the next, as she gets drunk.
Connie (female, 22-35): Leslie’s gullible and not very bright girlfriend, bubbly and emotional and something of a typical air-headed blonde. She talks fast and essentially without breathing. This actress will need to be high energy, comfortable with physical comedy (she’s the one who Jansen carries out). We are not looking for a true stereotype since there needs to be something sweet and vulnerable that also needs to be expressed.
Arnold Grunion (male, 30-70): An intense shady, shifty character whose origins are a mystery. He is a man in a trench coat found by Vivian on the subway and apparently a “fixer”, who can arrange for whatever is needed (including a sudden marriage), for a price.
All roles require excellent comedic timing!
Auditions and callbacks held by invitation only in mid-December. We will not accept video submissions and we will only be seeing people in the Los Angeles area. There are 3 Equity Guest Artist Contracts available for the show. All roles are open to performers of any union status. Rehearsals begin 1/5/2015. Performances run January 23 thru February 8at the Norris Theatre.
