Piece is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down. The characters are spiritually connected throughout their whole lives and remain in contact, but are never married to each other. They do have a brief affair late in life, but it is too late for both of them.

Andrew Makepeace Ladd III:
40s-50s. Born to wealth. Attorney. Grounded, secure.
Melissa Gardner:
40s-50s. Also born to wealth and privilege. Free-spirited, but never really gets her life together.
