BREAKDOWN
Elias Schreiber-Hoffman: 29, Jewish man. Elias is Jenny’s boyfriend. Boundaries are important to
him. He has had an unconventional upbringing. He knows something is going on under the surface of
his relationship with Jenny and it is making him irritable and suspicious and insecure, although he truly
loves her. He is something of a Sphinx, but maybe not deeply so.
Jenny Chung: 31, Asian woman. Jenny is Elias’ girlfriend. She loves him, but also wants out of this
relationship. Jenny is hyper sensitive to her environment and to everything her boyfriend does. She is
passive/aggressive, but this is born of circumstance rather than a character trait. She is something of a
Sphinx, rooted in her stratospheric intelligence.
Mertis Katherine Graven: 72, married woman. Mertis owns and operates a bed and breakfast in
Gettysburg, PA. She is gracious and generous and full of wonder. She may or not be of this world.
She is a true eccentric, but she is 100% herself, i.e., authentic. Mertis has experienced more in her
lifetime than most people. She can read minds.
Genevieve Marduk – 85, blind woman. She is patrician with a forceful personality. Genevieve is not
hesitant to share all her thoughts. She was once possessed by her ex-husband and was certified
insane; these are facts.
