Dr. Givings:
Male, Caucasian, 40s, erudite, decorous, refined, practical and rational man of science specializing in gynecological and hysterical disorders. Appealing and attractive in an unassuming way.
Catherine Givings:
Female, Caucasian, 20s, impulsive, energetic, insatiably curious, loquacious, even silly, tempestuous, charming wife to Dr. Givings. She has a big open heart, pulsating sexual drive and quick to react. She has a youthful innocence, a romantic idealism, a sly sense of wit and a desire for adventure. She lacks sophistication but has a very appealing tomboyish attractiveness.
Sabrina Daldry:
Female, Caucasian, 30s. A stoic, somber, depressive upper middle class wife to Mr. Daldry, but awakens into a bright, lively woman upon treatments. Reserved, decorous, elegant, she likes to obey rules.
Mr. Daldry:

Male, Caucasian or Mediterranean, 20s or 30s, an Englishman, aristocratic painter and artist. He is sensitive, deeply romantic and is an impassioned, soulful, attractive, even beautiful, man.
Elizabeth:
Female, African American, early 30s, lower class, wet nurse to Dr. and Catherine Givings, a grieving mother, but strong, sensual, beautiful, self-possessed woman. She has the enviable quality of presence and effortless exquisiteness.
