Breakdown

HAVING OUR SAY
The play opens as Sadie and Bessie welcome us into their Mount Vernon, NY home. While preparing a celebratory dinner in remembrance of their father's birthday, they take us on a remarkable journey through the last hundred years of our nation's history, recounting a fascinating series of event, and amusing anecdotes drawn from their rich family history and careers as pioneering African-American professionals.

MISS SADIE DELANY - 103 year old African-American woman, a retired High School Teacher. She has a sweet disposition but gets her point across clearly.

DR. BESSIE DELANY - 101 year old African-American woman, a retired Dentist. She has a bite to her personality and is more outspoken.
The sisters often finish eath other's sentences, speak in unison, echo each other's thoughts and gestures. After a hundrend years of living together, they are, as Sadie says, in some ways, like one person.
