Please prepare a pop/rock song. Singing from either show is welcome. Bring sheet music; accompanist provide. Dance callbacks will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2011.

Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.

All roles/chorus positions are available unless otherwise specified.

HAIRSPRAY Music: Marc Shaiman. Book: Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Lyrics: M. Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Dir: Casey Colgan. 1st reh: 4/5/11. Runs 4/27–5/29.

Tracy Turnblad:
Female, late teens. Attractive, pleasantly plump. Strong-willed “rabble rouser” with a passion for dance and equality.

Penny Pingleton:
Late teens. Tracy's supportive, somewhat dorky best friend.

Link Larkin:
Male, late teens. Handsome teen heartthrob.

Corny Collins:
Over 30. Host of a 1960s TV dance show.

Seaweed J. Stubbs:
African American male, late teens. Charismatic. Dancer.

Amber Von Tussle:
Late teens. Bratty, spoiled princess who aspires to be a teen beauty-pageant queen.

Velma Von Tussle:
40s. Amber's scheming, pushy backstage mother who produces Corny Collins’s TV show.

Wilbur:
40s+. Tracy's quirky father. Owns a joke shop.

Little Inez:
African American girl, appears to be in early teens. Seaweed's little sister.

Female Authority Figure:
Characters are 30-45. Seeking versatile character actress with strong comedic timing to play a variety of great featured characters including Prudy Pingleton, Penny's overprotective and close-minded mother; Prison Matron, guarding the Big Doll House and Gym Teacher. Strong singer.

Male Authority Figure:

Characters are 30-50. Seeking versatile character actor with strong comedic timing to play a variety of great featured characters including Mr. Pinky, owner of the Hefty Hideaway; Mr. Spritzer, President of Ultra Clutch hairspray; Principal of Tracy's high school. Strong singer.

The following HAIRSPRAY roles are cast (i.e. offer accepted). Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.

Edna Turnblad:
CAST. Woman, 40s. Played by a man. Tracy’s portly mother.


Motormouth Maybelle:
CAST. African American woman, 40s+. Sassy. Sings very well

SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ Words/Music: Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Dir/Choreo: Russell Garrett. Mus Dir: John Bell. 1st reh: 5/31/11. Runs 6/22-7/31.

Theatre’s casting note: “We are looking for a multi-talented ensemble of performers who sing, act, and dance with equal ability. ALL must move well or dance. Working well together as a group (especially the male quartet) is important, as is the ability to step forward and hold the stage alone. The cast breakdown below follows the basic description as was presented on Broadway with some of the songs on which they sing lead (original actor names are in parenthesis).”

Male 1 (Fred):

African American, 20s-40s. Solid and implacable. Bass. “You’re The Boss”, “Little Egypt”.

Male 2 (Ken):

African American, 20s-40s. A smoothie. Baritone. “Spanish Harlem”, “Loving You”, “Poison Ivy”.

Male 3 (Adrian):

African American, 20s-40s. Second tenor. “Stand By Me”, “Youngblood”, “Love Potion #9”.

Male 4 (Victor):

African American, 20s-40s. Comic bad boy. First tenor. “I (Who Have Nothing)”, “Searchin’”, “Treat Me Nice”.

Male 5 (Michael):

Caucasian, 20s-40s. Sexy and suave. Second tenor. “Jailhouse Rock”, “Kansas City”, “Ruby Baby”.

Woman 1(Delee):

Caucasian, 20s – early 30s. Innocent, but with a wild streak. The Shimmy Girl. (Big) belt, and mix. “Falling”, “Trouble”, “I’m A Woman”.

Woman 2 (Brenda):

African American, 20s-40s. Savvy, sexy and smart. (Big) belt, and mix. “Don Juan”, “Some Cats Know”, “I’m A Woman”.

Woman 3 (Pattie):

Caucasian, 20s-40s. Grounded. The Voice of Experience. (Big) belt, and mix. “Pearl’s A Singer”, “I Keep Forgettin’”, “Don’t”.

Woman 4 (BJ):

African American, 20s-50. Large in stature. Sexy, funny and heartbreaking. Huge Gospel voice, belt and mix. “Fools Fall In Love”, “Hound Dog”, “Saved”.

Theatre’s statement: “Performers of all ethnic and racial backgrounds are encouraged to attend. The above descriptions [for SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ] follow the original Broadway production as it was originally cast. We are not limiting ourselves to this original breakdown as far as ethnicity and race are concerned. All types will be considered for almost [all], if not all, roles.”
