Note: The play is based on the 1967 screenplay by William Rose. The roles of Matt Drayton and Monsignor Ryan have been cast.

Seeking:

Christina Drayton
Late 50s-60s; Caucasian woman, runs an art gallery. Very regal, but can be casual. Loves her husband and daughter fiercely. Still beautiful.
(played by Katharine Hepburn in the film)

Joanna Drayton
20s; Caucasian woman. The picture of youth, health, beauty, vitality, optimism. Probably tall and Ivory Soap beautiful.

Dr. John Prentice Jr.
30s-45. African-American man; Handsome, regal, correct, professional. He’s holding in great passion that occasionally boils to the surface. (played by Sidney Poitier in the film)

Matilda Binks
African-American woman. 50s to 60, a domestic. Very good with tough love. She defies the stereotypical maid. Good singing voice.

Hilary St. George
40s to 50, associate director of an art gallery. WASP, gregarious, a ready smile, can be very charming or very patronizing.

John Prentice, Sr.
Late 50s-60s, African-American man; Retired teacher. Polite, correct gentleman with a major chip on his shoulder that doesn’t stay under the surface easily.

Mary Prentice
Late 50s-60s, African-American woman; Quiet thoughtful, loving, but has a way of speaking devastating truths simply but forcefully
