BREAKDOWN

GODSPELL
First rehearsal: May 7
Opening: May 22; Close: June 16, 2019
Character Breakdowns:

Character Breakdown (please note: aside from Jesus, John, and Judas, all other character names are the names of the actual actors in the revival)

John The Baptist/Judas – Male identifying. He has attributes of both Biblical figures: He is both Jesus' lieutenant and most ardent disciple and the doubter who begins to question and rebel. Charismatic, in an overt revolutionary way, with an undertone of sexuality. He is the most serious and intellectual of the group, though as with all the actors, he must still possess a good sense of physical comedy.(Sings: Prepare Ye, All for the Best, On the Willows) (Baritone Eb top solo note, should have an E for harmonies)

Nick: Male identifying. Very high energy. Impish and playful. In the original, he played several musical instruments, including concertina, recorder and guitar. (Sings: We Beseech Thee) (Tenor-falsetto high D above staff)

Telly: Male identifying. Slow but with a great sweetness and innocence about him. Sings All Good Gifts (Tenor-high A)

George: Male identifying. The comedian, the class clown. The guy who can do a hundred voices and imitations. (Sings: Light of the World) (Baritone, should have an E for harmonies)

Anna Maria: Female identifying. A bit of a tomboy, but basically open and sweet. Perhaps the youngest of the group. She is the first of the group to commit to following Jesus in the song Day by Day. (Alto or Mezzo)

Lindsay: Female identifying. The confident one, the show-off. The first one to volunteer, sometimes she jumps in before she really understands what's going on. (Sings: Bless the Lord) Soprano -high A in “Bless the Lord” high C (“violin” note) in “We Beseech Thee”)

Uzo: Female identifying. The shy one. Sometimes a little slow to get things, but when she does, she commits all the way. Has an earth mother kind of warmth to her. (Sings: By My Side) (Alto)

Celisse: The female equivalent of the class clown. Goofy and a cut-up. In the 2012 Broadway revival, she played several instruments, including conga, ukulele and guitar – a plus but not necessary. (Sings: Learn Your Lessons Well) (Mezzo)

This is an ensemble cast where all characters must sing, dance/move well, and act - playing a musical instrument is a plus, but not a must.
The Pit will be on stage during the show and part of the action. Some cast members will be rotating in and out of the pit as needed. Basically, if a character has a solo turn in a particular number, someone else may be accompanying them.
