BREAKDOWN

What will you sacrifice to fix the people you love? Homeless and suffering from a mental illness, Ronnie desperately needs help. But she only trusts her high school best friends, and they don’t even want to reunite. Broken promises and dark humor fill David Lee White’s new play about friendship, illness, and facing the truth.

JANINE:
Female. 40s or 50s. From Trenton, NJ. Any ethnicity. Very outspoken. Works as an administrator/caregiver at a mental health facility. Experienced, coolly compassionate, with a very personal perspective on the problems of her patient, Ronnie at age mid-30's.

VALERIE:
Female. Plays the character at ages 18 and mid-30s. From Trenton, NJ. Any ethnicity. Left Trenton to become a bit-player in Los Angeles on-camera world. Occasionally appears in national commercials. Intelligent, articulate, both as a high school senior and, later, an adult conflicted about her current obligations towards her 2 best school friends from years ago.

DARYL:
Male. Plays the character at ages 18 and mid-30s. From Trenton, NJ Any ethnicity. Used to be an athlete, now a district attorney in Trenton. Whip-smart, compassionate, really trying to reconcile the past and present needs and wants of himself and his 2 best high school friends.
