Late 20s-Early 40s, any ethnicity. Baritone up to high F. A rogue and a gambler but also a respected leader of his gang of ne’er do wells. Comedic and charming but a bit strapped for cash. A consummate businessman with divided loyalties. Adelaide’s fiancé.
MISS ADELAIDE
Late 20s-Early 40s, any ethnicity. Mezzo to A. A showgirl with a heart of gold and a perpetual, psychosomatic cold. Easy-going, electric, comedic tour-de-force. Smarter than she’s given credit for. Very aware of how very long she’s been engaged to Nathan.
SKY MASTERSON
Late 20s-Early 40s, any ethnicity. Baritone up to E-flat. Smart, charming, handsome gambler. Romantic leading man with a bit of an edge. Able to adapt to any situation but ready to reel off pre-prepared anecdotes regarding his view of the world. Despite his failings, Sky is immensely likeable and oozes style.
SARAH BROWN
Mid-20s-Late 30s, any ethnicity. Soprano up to high A. Prim and proper Salvation Army officer. Has a hidden wild streak waiting to come out. An idealistic but sheltered missionary. Kind-hearted but like Sky, too categorical in her view of the world. Charisma, a natural beauty and a silky jazz voice are important attributes.
NICELY-NICELY JOHNSON
Late 20s-Late 40s, any ethnicity. High tenor up to B-flat. Funny character guy, likeable and somehow sweet, comedic. An eccentric gambler and one of Nathan’s closest associates.
BENNY SOUTHSTREET
Early 30s-Late 40s, any ethnicity. Baritone up to high G. Funny character man. Abbott to Nicely’s Costello.
HARRY THE HORSE
Early 30s-Late 40s, any ethnicity. Gambler; all talk and little action. Mouthpiece for Big Jule. Actor may play other roles in the ENSEMBLE.
BIG JULE
Early 30s-Early 50s, any ethnicity. Imposing, tough gangster from Chicago. An intimidating hustler. Temperamental. A sore loser. Although not necessarily a large man, he has undisputed stage presence. Actor may play other roles in the ENSEMBLE.
ARVIDE ABERNATHY
Late 50s-Early 70s, any ethnicity. Lyric baritone. Salvation Army man and Sarah’s paternal figure. Kind, gentle, thoughtful. A reasonable old man with a warm heart that harbors only the kindest intentions, even if he tends to be a little gullible.

Early 40s-Early 60s, any ethnicity. Mezzo. Business like and in-control, but ready to cut loose.

Male, Caucasian, 40-60; Jewish. Character actor who can flip from warm camaraderie to a tough, New York business man, used to operating his own racket. Character singer.
J. EDGAR HOOVER
Male, Caucasian. 40-60 Smart, ruthless, corrupt. The actor must interpret Hoover at a slight angle and with humor. Must sing well.
YOUNG ALAN FREED

(Rock Baritone/Tenor, 20s) – the result of one of the Dr’s experiments: “the perfect man.” Must be in good shape and comfortable with wearing little clothing

(Bari Tenor, Bb2-G4, 20s) Quirky, but very much in love with his fiancé, Janet. Overly optimistic at times.
Janet
(Mezzo Soprano Belt, A3-Eb5, 20s) Good girl who is madly in love with Brad. Always seems to be frightened of something. Keeps losing more of her clothes throughout the story. Emotionally weak and caves into pressure easily.
Magenta
(Husky Rock Mezzo/Alto, 20’s-30) – A very strange servant of Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter. Bold and Sexy.
Riff Raff
(High Rock Tenor, D3-B4, 20s-40s) Creepy man resembling more of a zombie. Often makes harmless conversation seem awkward and foreboding. One of Frank’s servants.
Columbia
(Mezzo Soprano Belt, E4-E5, 20s-40s) One of Frank’s servants.
Eddie/Dr. Scott/Narrator
(Baritone, E3-F#4, 20s-40s) Eddie, delivery man, “went to pieces.” Misses the rock and role of life. Comes back to life only to die after his solo. Scott is Eddie’s Uncle. The Narrator follows our two hero’s through the story by narrating directly to the audience.

The New World takes a hilariously skewed look at the beginning of America as we know it through the relationship between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe. This skewed approach is also represented in color-blind casting.

SUSANNA STANDISH
Miles' daughter. She's doing her best to be a good Pilgrim, but she's a hiding a non-Pilgrim habit. She’s a focused and enthusiastic young woman who has come to the New World to realize her dream of a new home. She's absolutely sure who she wants to be...until the new world reveals all it has in store. Belt/mixer (young Sutton Foster) ROLE IS ON OFFER.
SQUANTO
Squanto is the younger of Chief W's sons. His mother has expectations for him and he knows what they are: a good marriage to a girl from a good family. Squanto is handsome but doesn’t care about that. What he cares about in life is his man-cave and his best friend Carl, the turkey. He has a goofy kind of charm and a sarcastic edge. Leading man/crooner (John Raitt mixed with Bobby Darin) ROLE IS ON OFFER.
CHIEF WAMPANOAG
The Chief of the Wampanoag tribe. This woman is the ultimate mother. Other moms give up and let go, but those women are quitters. She attacks her role as chief with the same sense of discipline. Young Merman belter. ROLE IS ON OFFER.
MILES STANDISH
Miles is the leader of the Pilgrims and a very spiritual man. He's charismatic, a born leader, with a 'can do' attitude. His charisma extends to people who do things the "right way", which is his way, which is God's way. The people who do things the "wrong way", well, they can go to hell. Deep rich Baritone.
JOAN
Miles' sister and Susanna's Aunt. Joan calls it like she sees it. She's a real broad. Being a Pilgrim doesn't come naturally to Joan, but she's trying! Rosemary Clooney belter. ROLE IS ON OFFER.
TAGO
Squanto’s loveable older brother and Chief W's oldest son. Tago loves everything about love. He also enjoys doing crafts and pleasing his mother. (NOTE: Tago speaks with a South Boston (Southie) accent) High, comic tenor. ROLE IS ON OFFER.
CARL THE TURKEY
Squanto's best friend. He's a turkey. ROLE IS ON OFFER.
All roles sing. The voices are more musical theater types, and ranges can all be adjusted depending on who the actors are.
