Seeking:

Daisy Werthan:
Female, 70s. Daisy is a proud, strong, and independent lady who is equal parts Southern and Jewish. She is active in her community, philanthropically engaged, concerned with appearances, and very particular about her home. Beneath a feisty exterior is a kind and loyal mother and friend. At the beginning of the play she is 72 years old and by the end she is 97. The actress playing Daisy must be able to believably and subtly age through the years.

Hoke Coleburn:
Male, 60s. Hoke is patient, kind, and wise. He was born on a farm in rural Georgia, has never been farther from home than Atlanta, didn’t attend school, and has worked as a driver for most of his life. He sees the best in everyone but isn’t shy about telling it like it is. As an African American, born in Macon Georgia in 1888, he must have strong opinions about what he sees changing around him as the play progresses from 1948 to 1973. But he mostly keeps those opinions to himself. The actor playing Hoke must be able to believably and subtly age through the years.

Boolie Werthan:
Male, 40s or 50s. Boolie is Daisy’s son. He ages from 40 to 65 years old during the course of the play. Boolie is a Southern Jewish businessman who pays much more attention to fitting into his Southern culture than his Jewish one. He is busy and practical, not one for much sentimentality. But he is also a loving and very devoted only child to Daisy, and caring towards his employees, including Hoke. A dry sense of humor and comic timing are important for this role.
