Botticelli
30's, male identifying, Bacchus-like, a man of pleasure, sumptuous, ribald, mischievous, faggy, witty, charismatic, think Rufus Wainwright meets Russell Brand- Actor has to be innately very funny and charming, everyone wants to sleep with him not because of his looks per-say but because of his aurora. Actor must be comfortable with full frontal nudity.
Savonarola
50-60's, male identifying, populist, he should be sinister but in a senior Republican senator kind of way — scary but persuasive and charismatic, not a dummy or a ghoul
Lorenzo
late 30's -40's, male identifying, virile, cunning, razor-sharp intelligence, dangerous, only out for himself, follows the logic of power at any cost.
Clarice
late 30's- 40's , female identifying, smart, powerful, sexy, knows what she wants but possesses a vulnerability that allows her to have our empathy, actor must be comfortable with full nudity.
Da Vinci
early- mid 20's, male identifying, apprentice and lover to Botticelli, prelude to a genius, articulate, grounded, actor must be comfortable with full frontal nudity.
Madre Maria
60's, female identifying, an effusive Italian mother, wise, bawdy and a bit crude, inexhaustible humor.
Poggio- 30's, male identifying, close friend and less well-known contemporary of Botticelli, rotund, sassy, camp, natural comic, confident in exactly who he is.
All actors should be able to carry a tune. Its not a musical, but there are choral pieces that are sung by the ensemble.
